Indian Army targets N-E insurgents along Myanmar border | Business Line

NEW DELHI, JUNE 9:
In a proactive strike, Indian Army today carried out an operation along the India-Myanmar border inflicting “significant casualties” on two groups of Northeast insurgents, suspected to be involved in the killing of 18 soldiers in Manipur last week.

The early morning operation in Nagaland and Manipur along the border was carried out after the Army received “credible and specific” intelligence that these militants were planning more attacks in the Indian territory, Major General Ranveer Singh, Additional Director General Military Operations, said.

“We have inflicted significant casualties on them. As a consequence, threats to our civilian population and security forces were averted,” he told reporters here.

He said the Army was in communication with Myanmar authorities on the issue and looked forward to working with them to combat such terrorism.

A judicial commission appointed by the Supreme Court has held that an encounter in Manipur carried out by an Army Major who was awarded the nation's highest peacetime gallantry medal in 2009 was staged and that two cousins had been "knowingly" targeted by security forces.

The "encounter" in which cousins Gobind and Nobo Meitei were killed, took place in Imphal's Langol area on April 4, 2009 and involved a joint team of the local police and 39 Assam Rifles (AR) personnel. Four months later, Major D Sreeram Kumar, who was leading the AR unit, was awarded the Ashoka Chakra for being responsible for a "palpable decrease in insurgency activities" and bringing "succour to the people and ensuring their safety".

Fake encounters could only occur in case where a couple of military personals kill couple of terrorists. Operations involving hundreds of military personals killing hundreds of terrorist inside a foreign country are never ever faked.

the magnitude of the attack was such that a response was expected , but the good thing is it was done jointly with myanmar , these militants though that they would carry out an attack and then flee to myanmar , now they know its dead end both the sides , further there was intelligence that they were planning to carry out more attacks in same pattern.

Even if India did not informed Myanmar ,they could not exactly claim that India did not asked their permission ,after India has publicly declared that an operation has taken place, as it would be insulting for them to admit that India violated their sovereignty and they could do nothing about it.
