He is a 70 year old civilian While we are returning an on duty soldier who willingly defected to Pakistan with his weapons.

Learn the difference. I know it is hurting you but still. There is a big difference here.

If someone reviewed his case and decided to pardon him. Personally don't think there is room to be generous , specially when head of enemy state is declaring surgical strikes against Pakistan.

This guys made up story would have been acceptable had there been no calls for strikes against Pakistan and if he faced any prison time in Pakistan it would have been due to the terrible leadership decision on part of India to bring up such topics

As per information pieced together by TOI after speaking to multiple sources, the soldier on Thursday afternoon started marching towards the LoC in a huff, still armed with his weapon, after an argument with his immediate superior. Apparently, he was cautioned by his colleagues as he marched towards the LoC but paid no heed to their calls not to stray into Azad Kashmir.

Pakistan realised it had no option but to release him because next time a Sepoy Arif defects to India, he won't be released by India.

Poonch: A Pakistani soldier was arrested by the Indian army in Kerni sector of Poonch district in Jammu and Kashmir today.
Arif Ali, who belongs to the Frontier Force of the Pakistani army, was arrested around 6 this morning. No weapons were found in his possession.
During questioning by army officials, Ali has reportedly said that he was hoping for asylum in India.

According to sources, he has also told his interrogators that lack of basic amenities - like electricity and proper supply of ration - has led to frustration among his colleagues deployed at the Line of Control or LoC. He has also complained about his seniors not granting them leaves.

Sources in the army said he would soon be sent back to Pakistan.

And it was no defection to India. Arif was actually having a love affair with Indian lady on other side of LOC. The defection story was a lie by Indian media.
