The five-day joint naval exercise between the Indian Navy and the Singapore Navy will start tomorrow in the South China Sea.

Five Indian navy ships, under the command of Rear Admiral Harish Chandra Singh Bisht, arrived in Singapore today for the drill that aims to strengthen bilateral maritime security relations.

The joint exercises, held on alternate year in the Indian Ocean and the South China Sea, has built up understanding and knowledge between Indian and Singapore navies, Rear Admiral Joseph Leong, Fleet Commander of the Republic of Singapore Navy told PTI at a reception hosted on board INS Jyoti.

He cited benefits of the joint exercise and cooperation developed by the Indian and Singapore navies in tackling major challenges and especially the piracy in the Gulf of Aden.
"We understand each other and have a high level contact in managing maritime security," said Rear Admiral Leong.

Rear Admiral Bisht said the annual exercises, held since 1994, were important to sharpen the skill of naval forces.

INS Delhi, INS Ranvijay, INS Ranveer, INS Jyoti and INS Kirch manned by 1,400 naval personnel are participating in the exercise. Singapore will have four naval ships including a submarine.

INS Ranvijay, the most powerful Indian naval ship, will carry out anti-submarine and anti-missile exercises.

But this time, the exercises would be a "mock warfare" though in the past live firing were tried out.

Good it will give in more and more experience more understanding

Good move by Singapore and Indian Navies. The joint exercises will help to secure the Malacca Straits and both Eastern and Western entrances to the Straits. This area has been plagued by piracy in the past (refer "Alondra Rainbow" hijacking). This will help to ensure that the scourge does no recur, among many other things.

Good. India-Singapore military relation growing rapidly. They have and going to have quality weapons. We can check them up.

Wait INS Ranvijay is the most powerful ship of the navy?I thought it was the Delhi class destroyers

^^It says "most powerful indian naval ship"and INS delhi is also there. But I found out that INS ranvijay has VLS for brahmos not like the other rajput class that have tubes only so maybe thats why

INS Ranvijay is the most powerful (in terms of firepower) Indian naval currently in service. It has got VLS Brahmos as well as Barak-1 anti-AShM systems.

VL Brahmos yes but no VL Shtil. Its strange that they didn't go for it!!!!!

^I see.so that means only INS ranvijay has VLS of brahmos.

May be if they didn't put Brahmos VLS on more Rajput class ships.

Eh guys...stop arguing and take a look at the Singapore stealth frigates

A provocative move. It is the equivalent of a naval exercise between Bangladesh and China off the coast of Kolkata.

How provocation? Singapore navy is not stranger South China sea nor the exercise to be held near Chinese water. Singapore and India does such exercises in Bay of Bengal regularly. Pakistan yes but BD govt will never do that.
