Other than Iran most historic wars involving Afghanistan are with nations in India and British only fought in Afghanistan to make sure the Russian Empire doesn't expand to threaten the British Raj

It is a buffer zone between Central Asia, South Asia and Persia and could be part of any or all of them.

The irony is Pakistan which is clearly part of South Asia is choosing to be part of Arabia instead.

And USSR included all of Central Asia but not Afghanistan.

Afghanistan was & is buffer zone meaning it is not part of either of them (India Sub continent, Persia & USSR/Central Asia) or part of all of them.
