Renowned Indian cardiac surgeon Devi Shetty has inaugurated a 375-bed hospital in Chattogram.





Shetty, the founder of the Narayana Health in India, launched the Imperial Hospital on Saturday.

The newly-incepted cardiac centre will be jointly operated by Narayana Health and Imperial.

The 6,60,000-sq ft facility consists of five separate buildings on seven acres of land in the port city's Pahartali area.

The hospital will offer health care services based on international standards, said Shetty.

The number of Bangladeshis travelling abroad to countries like India, Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia is rising each year, he observed.

“The inception of this hospital will greatly reduce this trend.”

Dr. Devi Shetty is amongst the top cardiothoracic surgeons around and a successful and a shrewd entrepreneur but a lot is left to be desired in terms of his skills of policy making.

He was instrumental in formulating the draft medical education policy of India that was put in public domain last week. He has made some radical proposals which includes giving lateral admissions to nurses as doctors after a bridged course! Of course, it is entirely possible that someone else was calling the shots in place of Dr Shetty, but the move was rightly criticized.

Coming to the topic, i think it was Devi Shetty who first treated your Home Minister Obaidul Quader for cardiac arrest and suggested that he be transferred elsewhere for surgery.

চট্টগ্রামের বহুল প্রত্যাশিত ইম্পেরিয়াল হাসপাতালের যাত্রা শুরু হয়েছে আজ। এই হাসপাতালটি যাত্রা শুরু করায় এখন থেকে চট্টগ্রামেই মিলবে বিশ্বমানের চিকিৎসাসেবা। আজ শনিবার সকাল ১০টায় এ হাসপাতাল উদ্বোধন করেছেন বিশ্বের খ্যাতনামা কার্ডিয়াক সার্জন, ভারতের ব্যাঙ্গালুরুর নারায়ণা ইনস্টিটিউট অব কার্ডিয়াক সায়েন্সের প্রতিষ্ঠাতা ডা. দেবী শেঠী। তার তত্বাবধানে হাসপাতালটি পরিচালিত হবে।

জানা গেছে নগরীর পাহাড়তলী চক্ষু হাসপাতালের পাশে প্রায় ৯০০ কোটি টাকা ব্যয়ে গড়ে তোলা হয়েছে ইম্পেরিয়াল হাসপাতাল। এর হৃদরোগ বিভাগের চিকিৎসা থেকে শুরু করে যাবতীয় কার্যক্রম ডা. দেবী শেঠীর তত্ত্বাবধানে পরিচালিত হবে।

উদ্যোক্তরা বলছেন, চট্টগ্রাম থেকে হাজার হাজার মানুষ প্রতি বছর হৃদরোগের চিকিৎসা করাতে দেবী শেঠীর হাসপাতালে যান। এই বিপুল সংখ্যক মানুষের কষ্ট লাঘবে চট্টগ্রামেই যাতে হৃদরোগের বিশ্বমানের চিকিৎসা হয় সেজন্য ইম্পেরিয়াল হাসপাতাল কর্তৃপক্ষ ডা. দেবী শেঠীকে চট্টগ্রামে নিয়ে আসার উদ্যোগ নেন। জানা গেছে, এখানে কার্ডিয়াক বিভাগের যাবতীয় পরীক্ষা নিরীক্ষাও ব্যাঙ্গালুরুর নারায়ণা কার্ডিয়াক সেন্টারের মতোই পরিচালিত হবে। হৃদরোগের চিকিৎসায় ব্যাঙ্গালুরুর চিকিৎসাই পাওয়া যাবে ইম্পেরিয়ালে।

ইম্পেরিয়াল হাসপাতালের ডিরেক্টর (স্ট্র্যাটেজিক কোয়ালিটি ম্যানেজমেন্ট) মোহাম্মদ রিয়াজ হোসেন বলেন, সাত একর জমির মধ্যে ৫টি ভবন নিয়ে মোট ৬ লাখ ৬০ হাজার বর্গফুট জায়গায় এ হাসপাতাল প্রতিষ্ঠিত হয়েছে।

জানা গেছে হাসপাতালে থাকবে উন্নতমানের সার্বক্ষণিক ইমার্জেন্সি সেবা এবং কার্ডিয়াক, ট্রান্সপ্ল্যান্ট, নিউরো, অর্থোপেডিক ও গাইনি অবস্‌ ইত্যাদি সম্বলিত ১৪টি মডিউলার অপারেশান থিয়েটার; আছে ১৬টি নার্স স্টেশন ও ৬২টি কনস্যালটেন্ট রুম সম্বলিত বহির্বিভাগ এবং আধুনিক গুণগত মানসম্পন্ন ৬৪টি ক্রিটিকাল কেয়ার বেড; নবজাতকদের জন্য ৪৪ শয্যাবিশিষ্ট নিওনেটাল ইউনিট এবং ৮টি পেডিয়াট্রিক আই সি ইউ। রোগী ও তার সাথে আগত স্বজনদের জন্য হাসপাতাল পরিধির মাঝে থাকার সুব্যবস্থা রাখা হয়েছে। আর্থিকভাবে অস্বচ্ছল রোগীদের জন্য ১০ শতাংশ শয্যা সংরক্ষিত আছে। হাসপাতালে ৮৮টি সিঙ্গেল, ৭৬টি ডাবল কেবিন, ৮টি পেডিয়াট্রিক আই সি ইউ, রোগীর স্বজনদের থাকার জন্য ৪০টি রুম এবং ২৭১ জন থাকার ডরমেটরি রয়েছে।

Mohammad Riaz Hossain, Director (Strategic Quality Management), Imperial Hospital said that this hospital was established at a total of 6,60,000 sq ft of 5 acres of land with 5 buildings.

It is known that the hospital will have the best full-time emergency services and 14 modular operation theater with cardiac, transplant, neuro, orthopedic and musing position; There are 16 Nurses Stations and 64 Conservatory Rooms with Outdoor and Modern Quality 64 Critical Care Beds; A 44-bed Neonatal Unit for Newborns and 8 Pediatric ICUs. The patient and the accompanying family members have been able to stay in the hospital area. There are 10 percent beds reserved for financially patient patients. The hospital has 88 singles, 76 double cabins, 8 pediatric ICUs, 40 rooms for the patient's relatives, and 271 dormitories to stay.
