Having been to india, I can confirm with anecdotal evidence, there is much more poverty there, than in Pakistan.

Lets believe UN , IMF and World bank will appoint you as their ambassador for expert opinion based on visuals and points of interests.

Having been to Pakistan 3 times in last 4 years, I can confirm with anecdotal evidence, there is much more poverty there, than in India... And have seen it increasing on every subsequent trip

why should we care to compare ourselves with Pakistan in the first place? neither we shall or should employ PAKISTAN'S MODEL FOR SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT:drag: nor we should consider it as anything more than an enemy nation (with whom we should pacify relations) or a future market for our products.

I agree we do not need to compare to Pakistan, but India is unique here, it has the population of China so China would be a better indicator, but the cultural, Governance model and diversity is totally different. We have our own set of numerous unique set of problems which are nowhere present in the world.
Any legislation, law or change, a newspaper report or article or documentary or movie meant to bring about facts or change have to consider not to antagonize any particular ethnic group, caste, sub caste, Kul, Gothras, religion, region, different strata of society, state or the North south, East or West divide.

Old map again.. From 1997... I have posted the latest map from UNDP where Pakistan and India belong to different categories on HDI.. Pakistan is the ONLY COUNTRY IN SOUTH ASIA WHICH IS NOW CATEGORIZED AS LOW HDI
It is a 2011 report, how is it old? and Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Nepal and Burma are also in low HDI in South Asia so what are you talking about? India is only out of the low HDI by 0.1 not much difference.

Clearly UN must have more than anecdotal evidence to state that Indians have greater poverty than Pakistan. But guys I accept that Pakistan is a in a mess and we have been betrayed by our corrupt leaders. But after all the problems we have I just do not get it how come India without these problem fairs worse??

The sad reality I saw in india, was a few small islands of prosperity, restricted to the larger metro's - surrounded by huge oceans of the most horrific and inhuman poverty. It actually reduced me, an implacable enemy of india to tears.

Really guys ...

Poverty level in both the countries is very high .. Nothing to be proud of

It's a nightmare for Parents when their children sleep empty stomach irrespective whether he is a Pakistani or Indian

BTW, did you know the HDI index was made by us people? :cheesy:
HDI index was devised and launched by Pakistani economist Mahbub ul Haq and Indian economist Amartya Sen in 1990

Are you talking about Nobel prize winner Amartya Sen?

I still don't get it...why such threads keep coming up every now and then...on top of that i don't get it that why some good forum members(irrespective of the flag) don't mind discussing the topic...i mean how does it matter who has more poor?? we both have enough numbers that no one can feel comfortable about it...it is just like a beggar showing other beggar how he is better than him..pathetic i must say....
