Indrani Das, a student of Indian origin, wins the prestigious Junior Nobel title in the US, 5 out of top 10 winners in the competition are of Indian origin; Information and broadcasting minister expresses happiness over the achievement.

An Indian-American teen has won the top award, worth 2,50,000 US Dollars in the oldest and most prestigious science and maths competition in the US, for her research on preventing death of neurons due to brain injuries or neuro-degenerative diseases.

Indrani Das, a 17-year-old resident of New Jersey, and four other Indian-origin students were among the top ten finalists to be honoured at the annual Regeneron Science Talent Search Awards Gala for their research projects demonstrating exceptional scientific and mathematical ability. Forty finalists took home more than 1.8 million US Dollars in awards.

-- Information and Broadcasting Minister M Venkaiah Naidu in a tweet said: "Indian origin student Indrani Das has won prestigious 'Junior Nobel' in USA. Proud that 5 out of top 10 are of Indian origin."

It shows there is immense talent in the sub-continent which is being destroyed by pathetic general eductation system in India and Pakistan.

Once these guys get exposed to real educational system and opportunities abroad they start shining...

Back at home, they wouldn't have done a jack and would be just average students (99% of the time, it is true).

The future is bright for young Indians. Opportunities are cropping fast. The quality of education is growing up. This is the time for people to be under 15 in India.

The quality of education in India is growing very fast. After 10 years, you don't even need to go out of India to get the best education in the world. This is a surprise because just 5 years back the quality was no where near as comparable to what as it is now.

Keep it real dude.

Given a half chance, almost 99.9% Indians will not even think twice to leave India and opt for education in any Western country.

I know it is bitter, but truth is never sweet.

I believe it is not very hard to do tie up programs with Western Universities given that Indians are one of the largest body of students in these Universities.

What is needed is to run Universities like companies where students and industry are customers.

May be for PhD- at UG and nowadays even PG most leaving are those who don't find place in prestigious Universities in India-

That is the work of market-

It is changing. What you said was true 10 years ago. The opportunities you have now in India for the best is comparable to what you have in west. Yes, India has a large number of mediocre students, for them west is still a good idea, but all this could change in a decade if India keeps up its momentum.

hey at least they actually seem to deserve it, they usually just hand stuff like this out to jews willy-nilly to further the "contributions" of their religion

congrats anyway

C'mon dude, just take a look around how Indians are standing in queues outside Western embassies to get a visa to get out.

Check out the number of applications to schools/colleges/universities in the Western countries by Indians, if anything it is seeing a huge increase.

Announce today in India those who want to go to a Western country for education should apply and 99,9% of Indians will leave in blink of an eye.

Blind nationalism is fine, but it does not change reality on ground.

Talking about India sitting in Pakistan is hilarious. You don't even know how India looks like or how it operates. So don't assume things. And all I can say is you are wrong. If you have money going to US is not hard. 80% of student visas gets approved in India.

Is that the reason why just 5% of Indians have applied and own a passport?

Common sense dictates that if 99.9% aspired to go abroad then the 99.9% would at least have thought of applying for a passport.
