The reasons of the oil companies objections to use the tankers, have been attributed to faulty designs and technical problems in loading and unloading. Those tankers were also sent to workshops for finding solution to the problem. But it, did not work, the source said. Though the Railway has adequate number of tanker, some vested quarters influenced the authority for import of the new wagons, it is alleged.
As a result due attention was not given to technical aspect like design specification of the tankers, it is further alleged. The traffic department of the Railway, which is supposed to be consulted for its opinion for design specification, was allegedly ignored as the whole process was done in a hurry, it is alleged. The relevant officials of the mechanical department of Railway had given approval to design specification of the tankers, another source said adding some officials had been to India several times for spot inspections. It remains a mystery as to how the tankers imported following procedural formalities, however, turned faulty, one top official requesting anonymity said.
