SLBM launch is the good news?

  • Indian Navy chief: Vikramaditya (Gorshkov) end of 2013. Have allowed asbestos lining in sealed boiler unit. Many components sub-standard.
  • Indian Navy chief: Majority of harbour acceptance trials of Arihant SSBN complete. Trials at sea next, should last less than a year.

  • We didn't have the requisite quality steel in India for building aircraft carriers. SAIL has developed the steel, says navy chief.
  • India's navy chief gives due credit to China for managing to induct an aircraft carrier.

Loot liya kameeno ne, aur hum khushi khushi loot bhi gaye. So much for the friendship.

  • Chinese DF-21 carrier killer missile significant capability, says Indian Navy chief.
  • 2 crucial indigenous warships to begin induction into Navy in 2013: destroyer INS Kolkata and anti-submarine warfare corvette INS Kamorta.

Thanks Sparky :)

So its 1 Kolkata class destroyer, 1 OPV, 1 P-28 Corvette, INS Viky, 1 Talwar class frigate & maybe INS Arihant as the major ship inductions in 2013

so finally Kolkata class is getting inducted. Good news

  • Indian Navy chief: AIP for 5th & 6th Scorpenes being developed by DRDO lab DMRL. If they delay, will proceed without AIP.
  • Indian Navy chief: Chinese naval modernisation truly impressive. Definitely a major concern for us.

Means a lot of things :D
- Barak-8 is ready for induction
- K-15 is going to be launched form Arihant.... May be in this month ??? :D
- a lot of Sub standard parts ??? Then what was our team doing there ???

Waiting for the failure of those sub standard parts...But its a serious issue Govt should bring this into the table with Putin....

And what we are going to tell him when he will say that there was a IN team to oversee the whole procedure ???
Forget it. India won't corner Putin but we will try for something more important like the actual agreement JV that's going to be sign for PAK-FA.

@SpArK: is the conference live now ???

That's disappointing, they should have used the delays to order the AIP system and the additional hull from France directly. Wow, now they realize that PLAN is a major concern? :what:

I think even in case of a delay, it would be wise to develop that crucial piece of tech by ourselves. Only a few countries have made good AIP systems, and we would be paying through our nose for them. Also, we need to develop our technological know-how for submarine building just as we are doing for aviation, with LCA and whatnot. We are going to need a lot of subs in future, and if that money remains in India, we can plough that back to our economy. Not to mention the multiplier effects of developing a high technological base, and the lessening our military's dependence on foreign countries. We should think of catching up with China on the home front too, not just at sea. As the navy chief himself admits, they have done remarkably well.

We can develop such techs for the future of course, but that doesn't mean we have to put our forces in operational disadvantage with less capable arms. PN and PLAN already have SSKs with AIP and we really should stick with normal diesel-electric subs until we sometimes will be ready to develop such a sub on our own???

I can only repeat it, we must get rid of the idea that indigenous development is the only or best way we have for self-relience! We have the huge advantage of co-developments and that the world sees us as a possible production hub for their arms and techs. That gives us access to latest techs, with higher quality, in less time, with less costs and delays!
Instead of developing a 5th gen AMCA alone, team up with Dassault and Embraer, which offers more advantages for Indian forces as well as Indian industry through exports. Instead of developing AURA UCAV alone, team up with Israel, instead of just procuring additional Scorpene or U214 subs and developing an AIP SSK alone, combine it to a long term partnership to develop a NG AIP SSK, that jointly will be developed and offered for exports as.
Instead of simply buying Mi 26T2 or Chinook, team up with Eurocopter on their Future Transport Helicopter development, instead of developing HTT 40 trainer alone, team up with EADS and jointly develop and offer it for EADS partner airforces and export countries.
Instead of developing IAC 2 alone, team up with France and Brazil, since both countries wants at least 1 similar CATOBAR carrier for their navies. That reduces costs and increased the possibility of a joint AMCA development too.

...

There are so many possibilities for us currently, but we blind ourselfs with the hunt for indigenous developments, only to brag t that we can do something that other countries did years or even decades ago.
