What's new

Indian Navy still have eyes on F-35

Without massive reforms i don't think that these orgs will ever change the ways in which they function, they should be made accountable for their work

Isn't that what India has voted for, reforms and change? BJP has the full power, they only need to use it, to change things, but just giving DRDO more money won't do it.

It is just too early for them to pass reforms, give them more time & i am sure they will make it happen

The one has nothing to do with the other, especially in this case. You only need the will to change things and bring in reforms at DRDO, not a 5 year term to do so. But I guess we first need a propper defence minister that actually can take decisions and layout a policy. Clearly one of the weak points of the new government, that they haven't found a solution for that problem.

Also they need time to do a analysis of what is wrong & what is right, that requires time

Come on buddy, even we do it here with far less insights that they even have when they were opposition parties. This is not the time to prepare for the job, this is the time to do the job! You can't let the country elect you and say, please wait for 6 month till we learned how to do the work. They surely will understand problems while doing it, but knew where the issues are before and we are not talking about AAP here, BJP / NDA is not a newbie in power.

Yeah but they still need the time to get familiar so in a hassle they don't make the wrong decision, better to be late than wrong & start over.I am gonna wait till the next budget for some new reforms to be passed & a dedicated Defense minister to be appointed.

That's the problem when you have 2 major parties, that actually are not that different. AAP, no matter how reasonable they are as a party, would had made more difference even in such a short time, because they want to change things. And I don't think the Indian public would had been that disappointed if reforms fail, since the overwhelming majority voted for actual change, not matter what that actually meant or how the reality was. Waiting for the next budget, even to elect a propper DM would be waaaay too little too late.

Well many of AAP's fast paced reforms also back fired & what i think is let's wait & give them more time 70 days is simply mot enough, that's why i want to wait till next budget

But 70 more days doesn't change policies! It's one thing not to spend too much more on defence now (contrary to what many expected with 20 to 25% defence budget increase), when you have to face such inflation risks in India. But it's another to reform the PSUs, the forces contribution to developments and the procurement policies. None of this costs us anything, they just need to change it! And if they had decided to give DRDO that much more money, they must have thought about DRDO and how it works, so it's not even about analysing the situation with more time, but about if they want to change something in these core matters or not.

Well let's see what they do in coming months, though 1 major defense reform has already been implemented the FDI in Def thing,Not the most urgent 1 but it still counts

True, just that the former MoD had the same plans. But in this case I am very happy that they didn't moved away from the former policies. The former DM however also did the right thing to pressure DRDO and HAL to results and to go against old ways by giving IA combat helicopters, lets hope the new government will follow that way too. But then again, reforms they want, needs to be done now from the start and to get back to the topic, they need to consider which fighter / take off system combo is the right for IAC 2 and then select a fighter to start with the carrier development.
