There were many Pakistani sailors on that ship (along with Indian and other nationalities). Apparently some Indian politicians had promised to chip in (to cover the Indian sailors) - but then disappeared when it came time to pay. So the only way to get our sailors released was to pay for all.

Once released, the ship was attacked by another group of pirates but luckily by that time PNS Babur had reached Somalia and was escorting it and saved them from being boarded again.

And THEN once ransom was paid and the ship was rescued, an IN frigate came and attempted to take charge of the released ship - leading to PNS Babur literally ramming the IN ship:

The IN were in shock and ran off They contacted the rescued Indian sailors on PNS Babur to ask if they wanted to come aboard the IN ship and the sailors told them to F off! Being p*ssed that they had been abandoned by India (and IN ignoring their hails when pirates came again) and actually being thankful to Ansar Burney and Pakistan Navy (sailor interviews online).

They reached Pakistan and were then sent to India.
