Dhow with Pakistanis aboard detained off Lakshadweep

An Indian warship on patrol in the Arabian Sea detained an Iranian dhow, with four Iranians and 15 Pakistanis on board, in India's Exclusive Economic Zone on Friday. The dhow had been sailing nearly 300 nautical miles west of the Bitra island in Lakshadweep around 2 p.m. Fishing gears were also recovered from the single-motor sailing vessel, which was escorted by INS Rajput, a destroyer, to Kavaratti.

“The crew members do not appear to possess any valid document, but all details would only be known after interrogation,” sources in the Navy said.

India recently deployed a multiship force in the Arabian Sea in view of a spurt in poaching and piracy-related incidents in the Exclusive Economic Zone.

Following the detention of the vessel, the Navy and the Coast Guard have intensified patrolling in the Arabian Sea and the Indian Ocean, mobilising their ships, patrol vessels and maritime patrol aircraft.

“The Navy is continuing to deploy additional ships and aircraft to carry out anti-piracy sanitisation in the area west of the Lakshadweep islands. Through its sustained presence in the Gulf of Aden and swift action in other hot spots of piracy in the Arabian Sea, the Navy has ensured reduction in incidents of piracy in the region,” a statement said.

good work. I'm sure this boosted their imaginary ego. What a comedy show. Especially after we released those peasant indian fishermen. A bold move by the increasingly troublesome enemy country.

a. Where are their papers?

b. What are they doing in Indian territorial Waters?

c. Why should we be lenient to any such person especially after the bitter experience of 26/11?

d. If, during the course of interrogation, they are indeed proven to be innocent fishermen, what makes you think they won't be released later on?

e. Why is your High Commission in India not protesting to the Indian Govt.?

f. Just imagine a role reversal with Pakistani Navy arresting Indian fishermen, don't you do such things?

g. What do you expect us to do?

i hope pakistani fisherman hasn't learn t any lesson from Iranians.............

when u plan an attack or spy the enemy position and preparation.........

The said islands are very very far from Pakistani waters...

And there is suspicion that Pirates are out in Arabian Sea and there was an incident near Mumbai coast.

We detained few Somalis near the same area from where this dhow was captured and they turn out to be fishermen who lost in sea.

Also there is specific intel that the islands where no human presence in that area may be used by terrorists, so IN is keeping a close watch.

+ 26/11, enough reasons to be vigil in that area.

KOCHI: Interrogation of the 19 foreigners, apprehended on board a dhow by a naval warship off Bitra Island, started today with police claiming 15 of them were Pakistani nationals.

There were 15 Pakistani nationals and four Iranians in the dhow which was intercepted by warship INS Rajput on Friday when they were sailing suspiciously, police said.

The crew were being questioned by a joint team of Navy, Coast Guard, Intelligence Bureau and police in Lakshadweep, top police sources in the Union Territory told PTI when contacted from here.

Confirming the presence of the Pakistani nationals, the sources said that the men had identity cards displaying their nationalities.

INS Rajput, a destroyer warship, was on patrol in the Exclusive Economic Zone west of Bitra when it spotted the dhow sailing suspiciously.

The dhow with the 19 foreigners was escorted to Kavaratti in the Lakshadweep Islands and handed over to local police late last night, they said.

The Navy's operation came just four days after India deployed a multi-ship force in the Arabian Sea, which has been witnessing a spurt in piracy in the recent weeks, to ward off the sea brigands operating there.

A more important question is, were they carrying any Pakistani Toothpaste or soap?

This is very troubling, I dont know weather Pakistani authorities have anything to do with it but extreme elements within Pakistan are sure cause of concern for India. Another 26/11 could happen and we need to be prepare. This could turn out be nothing after the investigation but what the heck are they doing that far? What would Pakistani member be saying if Indians were found close to Iranian and Pakistani border?
