Dozens of Indian warships, including an aircraft carrier and nuclear-powered submarines, left a massive maritime exercise and were deployed amid simmering tensions with Pakistan, the Navy has confirmed.
INS ‘Vikramaditya,’ a Russian-built aircraft carrier, and a number of nuclear submarines have set sail along with other vessels and aircraft, according to a statement by the Indian military. The move is intended “to prevent, deter and defeat any misadventure by Pakistan in the maritime domain.”

Most of the warships were part of TROPEX 2019, India’s largest war games involving the Navy, Air Force and Army. As tensions mounted between India and Pakistan, they were “swiftly transited from exercise to operational deployment mode,” the military said.

The wordy statement doesn’t say much about the time of the deployment, nor did it mention the names of the submarines in question. There are only two vessels of this class, the INS ‘Chakra,’ an Akula-class attack submarine leased from Russia, and the INS ‘Arihant,’ an indigenous ship carrying up to 12 ballistic missiles.

It is understood that some Indian vessels did go on patrol during the India-Pakistan standoff. On one occasion in March, Islamabad said its Navy had detected an unknown Indian submarine moving at periscope depth close to Pakistani waters. India dismissed the Pakistani report, calling it "propaganda" and "misinformation."

Both arch rivals were tempted to raise the stakes in the recent conflict over Kashmir, it seems. In the middle of the crisis, India threatened to unleash missiles on terrorist facilities inside Pakistan, which said it would respond with its own strikes “three times over.”

Kashmir, a mountainous region the two neighbors control in part but claim in full, has been at the heart of three India-Pakistan wars since 1947. The countries regularly trade artillery and small arms fire across the heavily militarized Line of Control dividing the two armies.

Dangerous formation. I don't think we have answer for this. Our navy is very vulnerable. Also we have disadvantage of small coastline. Indian navy can do blockade.

It is, but IN will also be at considerable risk because the biggest threat to CVBG is submarine, and it will take a lot of ships of IN to impose blockade, with risk of being sunk in deep sea from subs, remember Agosta 90 is AIP at least 2 of those.

. . . . .
You do realise that a blockade means war.
Yes you are right. I think it will take just 2, 3 small yield nuke to clear blockade. During war, emotion reaches sky high, If we are down, I don't think we will spare enemy, & we will use all options to ensure maximum damage. Cost will be high if they want to demolish us . We are not living in 1970s or 80s.

Well; efficacy of these weapon systems have been debated to death.

Though carriers have not been in a high-end fight since 1944, there is evidence of them being deployed more cautiously in combat during the Cold War. In the 1971 Indo-Pakistani War, India’s carrier, the Vikrant, was sent to the permissive Bay of Bengal and not to the more contested northern Arabian Sea.
Moreover, in this current age where the “battle of the narratives” predominates, the enemy need not sink the carrier to secure a major political victory; this could be attained by merely hitting it (which may or may not cause significant damage). That said, even limited damage to the carrier force could be spun into a political victory for the adversary.

Aircraft carier without awaacs cover is a big fat sitting duck....

When u think of US carriers they have 24/7 awacs providing them un matched situational awaeeness...

This is a 50s ship sailing in 2019

This carrier shud be first thing to be taken on if there is a flare up...

With no capacity to look beyond horrizon and having 10 mig 29 ks on deck... It has a big red cross painted on it

LOL didn't they say that about mighty IAF? Everyone saw what happened.

We will sink these ships and carriers if need be. Let India make a move.

That's what happens when you let a poisonous snake escape and not smash its head. Indian Hindus (specially the filthy butcher of Gujarat and his gang of criminals) are worst than poisonous snake. Pak should have destroyed their two submarines when they were found very close to our shores. Indians would have turned into mad dogs but believe me they wouldn't have found any courage in them to return to Pak waters. That once-a-decades opportunity has been lost. But now if Indians commit any aggression against Pakistan, we need to completely destroy IN. Our coward leaders might think of inflicting a symbolic loss to the enemy (by dropping bombs a few KM away from actual targets) but that will be traitorous acts against this nation-state.

Unfortunately due to those Pakistani thick skulls who want peace with India. Little did they know it never existed in indian books.
