Over the month, leader of the Sevmash yard in Severodvinsk, Arkhangelsk Oblast, has been twice in India to negotiate new contract terms for sales of the aircraft carrier “Admiral Gorshkov”.
Sevmash General Director Nikolay Kalistratov today again meets with Indian defence authorities for negotiations over the takeover terms of the “Admiral Gorshkov”, by the Indians called “Vikramaditia”, the Sevmash informs in a press release.

The visit is the second in a month. In mid-February Kalistratov and his delegation confirmed that the Indian side would in the near future transfer 250 million USD, which will help keep up progress with the reconstruction and modernization of the vessel

IN doesnt have an issue with surface fleet strength. But sub-surface its way below par, other than the scorpenes there is nothing concrete. We cannot wait for the ATV or the Akula, we need more subs if we need to have a viable blue navy.

IN does have a problem with the surface fleet. The kind of role IN is envisaging for itself, and the expansion of the number of ports and shipyards in India, IN is going to be desperately short of numbers.

However the speed with which ships have till date been built in India are no indicator for the future. The private shipyards in India are finally comming up, and they are mammoth in size. MoD has also now developed the policy wherein private shipyards can manufacture warships. So things should turn a corner 2012 onwards.

But still the orders arnt coming thru from the IN right? What are the designs? We still dont have experience, so delays can be expected as they are the norms here.

What about the subs?

Other than Scorpenes, nothing has been placed. ATV and Akula might never come.

. .
Logic behind this thinking?

Akula has got delayed due to the accident. IN might be jittery take over such a vessel.

ATV is a Indian endeavour, we have seen enough 'near misses' in research history to trust the schedule.

Bull have a look in to this story :http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/..._India/articleshow/3841821.cms?TOI_latestnews

May be you can find a connection with Vikramaditya price hike. Navy is keen on it. ATV was supposed to be unveiled on 26th January but the new date is some where in April.

Second line of SSK's RFP to be issued in end of 2009, or early 2010. 6 more SSK's of a different type(yes its necessary) than the Scorpene's.

.
That lease story continues to be a story.

And ATV alreay got postponed once, how mnay more times, god alone knows.

may be god does not know but you seems to know that please enlighten.

So we cannot expect them to be in service for another 5 years for sure. By then how many subs would India have aftger retirement.

.
Kilo's, U-209's, 6 Scorpene's, 6 new SSK's.

Forget ATV, the induction date can change, so there can be no definite timeframe.

IN hasnt still decided whether to go in for the upgrade of U209 which siemens proposed.

Thats 4+10+6 = 16 Submarines.

What about new ones? 16 is bare minimum.

What has happened to Amur?

They will upgrade the U-209's.

What has happened to Amur?
Nothing specific to Amur. Its an open RFP. If Amur wins the tender it gets awarded. Not the previously thought closed RFP for Amur.

It all depends on Pakistan. If Pakistan is able to secure its U-214 deal before Indian RFP is sent out-well, that would rule HDW out of the Indian competition, unless they come up with something like F-16IN/blk 70 type thingy. That is, they are able to impress to MoD that what they are offering IN is very different from what Pakistan has bought. Because the way it appears, U-214 outclasses its competition. I dont know if the US-Spanish(?) sub is in the tender or not.
