Indian Navigation Satellite System “NAVIC” : Security Challenges for Pakistan

One should cut the dress according to the cloth.
We don't have to achieve parity in each and every field with Indians and certainly we don't have the pockets to re-invent the wheel if it's already available.
No doubt what you say is true but in that case one must accept the implications of outsourcing such critical duties to a foreign power.

Dumbass, nothing is khairat, Pakistan military is surly paying its fair share for their access to military component of satellite. Pakistan also has GPS and most likely GLONASS too, how do you think Pakistan is dropping JDAMs from F-16s on TTP. On the other hand, India's' friend, Russia, which sanction prone, and would not risk its economy for India, plus Russia is already economically broke and often blackmail India to get money on military project. Meanwhile, China is the richest country in the world and economically very influential. If Pakistan wasn't sure that Chinese would serve them in time of conflict, they would have started their own project. After all it cost only $200 million or so for India, which is lot less than getting 8 F-16s. :sarcastic:

It also says, chinese will open one base station in Pakistan in phase two.

US does not block access during peacetime; they only block GPS signals during wartime, so while it would not be a problem to drop JDAMs on talibunnies, those same JDAMs would be useless dead weight in Indo-Pak war. And Lol NO! You do not have access to military grade signal of GLONASS, only civilian grade.

And what make you think that China is not sanction prone!!Could Chinese manufacturing survive a sanction? It is more sanction prone that Russia as Russian economy was never dependent on access to Western markets. Their gig was simple: sell Oil and Gas to its captive European market, and yet it is suffering from sanctions. And weren't you people equally confident of USA would serve you during conflict. How did that panned out for you?

And while it may cost only $200+ million for India, putting it up is technology intensive and no one would do this for you as it is a military/dual-use system. You people: (a) could not design a GPS satellite. (b)could not launch it. There you have the reason why you need to depend on China during war.

China will help Pakistan ; there is no need to worry

This is NOT a destabilising technology like BMD or SLBM s
A nation' s strength ultimately consists in what it can do on its own, and not in what it can borrow from others. : INDIRA GANDHI
like the quote :yahoo:

@Stephen Cohen's signature is perfect in this context:

"A nation' s strength ultimately consists in what it can do on its own, and not in what it can borrow from others". : INDIRA GANDHI

Hanging onto the coat tails of others will only lead to one inevitable outcome.....

That's rich coming from a nation which has outsourced every single component on their signature weopons program including but not limited to Tejas, brahmos etc. Oh right, you guys didnt, everything is domestically produced in your country.

This situation present some unique opportunity for Pakistan.
First, If Pakistan can reliably and consistently use Chinese system there is no immediate need for Pakistan to dedicate resource for such expansive project.
Second, if Pakistan can work on some sort Anti-satellite weapons (ASAT) that will put indian investment at cross hair.

Just wait till LVM/MkIII gets online... indian space launches will get a boost and ISRO will privatize both sat development and launch (PSLV), and take a licensing cut thereby freeing Govt. resources for military focus.Already a large part of PSLV is pvt manufactured.
We could also see NAVIC extended to cover atleast SCS and Syria/Arabian Gulf as many of our security / economic interests lie in these areas.

So u will just shoot down all Sat with ASAT huh? Funny ........

The entire notion that any any nation can depend on a foreign navigation system "reliably" is entirely moot and not even worth discussing, even if we are talking about the world's greatest friendship that is higher than the mountains and blah blah blah.

Secondly, India doesn't have to worry about Pakistan developing ASAT tech, the US will take care of any such threats on India's behalf purely because the US is more inclined to actively deter the development of such tech.

THe article tells that only Karachi is covered by Compass or Beidou.....

Pakistan is lagging far behind in space technologies....
Only one satellite and that is too outsourced to China..
That's totally false conclusion you reached. Basically they have installed based stations their but satellite navigation systems do not work in piecewise fashion...only in the boundaries of a certain city. The system covers a whole region or even the globe but it can have better resolution, signal strength and coverage in certain areas while on fringes it becomes weak, GPS, Beidou, Glonass and (future) Galileo have their strength in different areas of the globe.

Pak has nothing to worry about. Their military is very well organised and modern. The Pak forces just don't boast.

Regarding this hindian statlite...Pak forces must keep monitoring its location with ground based stations..develop techniques to hack it when necessary and in the mean time develop laser based tech to burn the hostile statelites in case of war.
