Tube artillery is the area that let's the Arty corps of the IA down badly but, as you have said, this is being addressed now (finally) the story will be very different in 5 years time and the one silver lining to this will be that in one foul swoop the IA's Arty corps will be state of the art almost overnight as the MGS, Towed Arty, ULH etc will all be bought around the same time so the Arty corps will effectively be brand new in 5 years time.

Well,actually if you look at it,the most numerous type of medium arty in Indian service is the M 46,which outguns most of the Pakistani tube arty assets (except a few Panters) by a long margin...........even without assisted munitions.

We are really good we have lot of good towed and self propelled artillery and also MRLS and there are reports we are getting lot of new ones and getting older ones upgraded

Most of your towed and self propelled medium guns (except the new Panters of course) are of L/39 caliber which has much lower range compared to even our M 46 field guns,let alone the newer L/45 guns.

Indian artillery is less than impressive. There are only about 90 SMERCH trucks, and only around 200 Bofors guns.

Indian tube artillery is a mess with lack of 155/52 caliber guns and no modern SP guns. Only hope is artillery missiles which India has a quality advantage over Pakistan but its numbers are again depressing.

The Pakistanis field the Chinese MLRS (forgot the name) which is supposed to have a range of 100km. That is a slight advantage over the Smerch which has a 90km range. But India has the Prahaar, a 150 km range system that fires 6 rockets. Also the 290km range Brahmos.

The advantage Pakistan has over India is self-propelled guns, something India badly lacks. There were reports that Pakistan will make their arty standard at 155mm. That would be another plus point for them but India too is upgrading its 130 mm howitzers to 155mm. When that happens the guns with the higher caliber will win.

Right now I would say Pakistan tube artillery has a slight advantage but overall India still holds the aces.

I know they are 155 mm and that's quite a big advantage for you guys in terms of absolute explosive punch and ammo commonality.But other than the Panters,the rest are of L/39 caliber just like our original FH 77Bs.Their range with unasisted rounds is around 19-20 kilometers with 23 litre propelant charges.The M 46 has greater range because they are of L/52 caliber.
