An Indian man has died after holding a four-day fast to pray for President Trump’s recovery from the coronavirus, according to reports.
Bussa Krishna — who had a life-size statue of Trump and worshiped him as his “god” — was filmed crying when he learned of his idol’s illness and then fell into a depression, according to Indian news agency ANI.
“He spent sleepless nights, starved and prayed for the US president’s recovery for the past three, four days. He died of cardiac arrest [Sunday] around noon,” a friend told the agency.
It was not clear if the 35-year-old farmer was still on his fast, with some reports saying he collapsed while drinking tea in his village in the southern state of Telangana.
Other than “feeling depressed” about Trump and first lady Melania Trump coming down with COVID-19, Krishna was otherwise “healthy and had no prior medical complications,” his cousin, Vivek, told the Hindustan Times.
Bussa Krishna’s obsession with the commander-in-chief started with a dream, he had said, and left him nicknamed “Trump Krishna” after he built a shrine and statue in his house.
Village official Venkat Goud said it was hard to believe that their “Trump Krishna” had passed away without getting to meet his “god,” whom he worshiped daily.
“As much as we are sad that he died without meeting Trump even once, we hope, at least the news of his death, reaches Trump now,” Goud told the Indian Express.
