The lander lost communication when it was 2.1km from moon's surface. What does this say? If it was damaged by crash, it would have lost contact only after crash.

No, the lander can't move its antennae. Due to space constraints, the antennae is not very movable and is almost fixed with maybe a few degrees of motion possible. So, if the lander is tilted significantly (over 30 degree), it can't communicate with its antennae

On June 18, 2019, NASA posted a story on its official website that used this image.

According to this story, this is a picture of the landing site of Apollo 16.

A US satellite will be crossing over the area on the 17th so we will have our answer soon. If we see a shape with not much disturbance then then it landed safely (not that it makes much of a difference if no communication is possible) if we see a new hole and no pieces then it’s either under the surface or it is in so many small pieces they can’t be seen in the image resolution.
