Ok about the MDM scheme its more about the quality of food which is served and children coming from healthy and wealthy famalies of India dont want to have the meal ... as simple as that as it is not the case of caste....

In temple trusts across all over India food is cooked by all people belonging to various sections of the society ... Yet devotes rush is millions to have this food which is called as mahaprasad... And the quality of food is good here because the temple trust keeps quality check strict...

What happens with the mid day meal scheme is that the contractors who get the contract tries to make big cut in the supply and supply lower quality of food which reduces his costs and increases his profits but thus affecting the quality of food and endangering the health of the children...

So many parents prefer their child not to have thye MDM scheme .................. SIMPLE AS THAT .....

If caste was the problem All rich people and upper caste people in India would not eat from reataurants and pulic places anywhere ...

Practically even in MNC like Dominoz, Pizza Hut, Mc Donalds , KFC the food can be cooked by Low caste people...............

The midday meal scheme has many loopholes and i very well know about that BUT lets be fair and accept the reality that here the prominent issue which also sparked protests and counter protest by lower and high cast hindus in UP, is about Cast based hatred.

many parents indeed dont want their children to have midday meal because its being cooked by low cast Hindus.

anyway lets check the dates the issue is old not new one btw. here are some news from previous years

Dalit cook gets a raw deal

Krishnagiri: Maheswari, a 26-year-old mother of four, lost her husband in an accident two years ago. Her family found it hard to make ends meet until she was appointed on compassionate grounds as a cook in the Mottur panchayat primary school in Kaveripattinam union. She joined work on March 2 and things seemed to be looking up for her.

But to Maheswari's dismay, 88 students of the school refused to eat food cooked by her, as she was a dalit. Their parents too objected and insisted their wards would not touch the food. They requested officials to transfer Maheswari and appoint a "caste Hindu" woman in her place.

Food wasted

The children reportedly refused to eat the food cooked by Maheswari for three days. It was thrown away. Revenue officials held talks with parents and villagers of Mottur panchayat, but they bluntly said their wards would not eat food cooked by Maheswari.

"Former panchayat president Madan and village gounder Madesh abused me and said the children would not consume food cooked by me. The Revenue officials asked me to accept a transfer and work in the Arasampatti primary school if I wanted to continue in my job," says Maheswari.

The Barur police have registered cases against Madan and Madesh under Section 4(3) of the Protection of Civil Rights Act.

"The Government should bring the guilty to book. The National SC/ST Commission should visit the village and investigate the matter. Barring a few, the children bring food from home and refuse to eat the food cooked by Maheswari," says Kathir, executive director of Evidence, a human rights organisation that looked into the incident.

anyway can any Indian tell me what is the ration of Low cast Hindus in India? are they in majority or minority ?

About 16.5 % of Indian population is dalit i.e low caste .Numbers are around 166 million i guess.

Its available on the net .

An no they are not limited to hinduism. There are low caste members in all religions who in total form the 166 million .

They usually take the christianity route.I know of a guy who converted to christianity not cause he was being humiliated but he could not find a job so he became a father instead.

The caste system is the demon indians need seriously face and solve. It is deeply rooted in indian society. Your government always say such caste system is history and past. Whoever say that is really just lying. Well, it is not.

no government has said that caste system does not exists. caste system is bitter truth of indian society & no indian can deny it. but good news is that this evil is slowly vanishing. i m sure that before next century caste system will totally vanish in india.

I believe India ought to follow the footsteps of kerala. The caste designations in kerala are used purely for reservation quota and nothing else. Social division on caste basis, religion or color is virtually non-existent in kerala. In college hostels of kerala you can see students belonging to separate castes sharing the same room and using the same amenities....the same is true when you consider work environments, public gatherings, restaurants etc.


I hope, and believe one day the whole of India can follow this road to self respect. Jai hind!

This shi*t happens in the sTate of U.p a lot . That is why it is one of the most backward and poor states of India . U.P people have to move on or be left behind when the rest of India is moving along into prosperity.

There might be petty issues no doubt but with that you cant look at India at large .. I gave you the examples of the MNC s

I also live in a state where MDM is given and i know the reasons why it is rejected by children its purely because of low quality food....

But govt is doing it already its all about general mentality not about Govt.

how that can be changed ?? ( other than degrees tell me something which is fairly practical as we have seen educated ones are also committing the same)
