Technically it was one of several BVR kills.....so far the Indian side have come up with several versions to the story, PAF wil disclose the events of that day at some point.

Because BVR kills are not easy to verify. IAF will not confirm and without WVR video we cant confirm we downed it.

We can confirm it, we have real time radar records, showing the BVR missile hitting the iaf plane. but it'll just be dismissed doctored up digital records by the indians...why bother.

The Mi17 was brought down by the AMRAAM fired by the F16 tracking the Su30, but the lock was broken and the AMRAAM found a new target, the unfortunate heli and went after it. The Indians showing Aim-120 piece was from the helicopter hit.

You don't need that to ascertain his truthfulness.

Nobody takes out an aircraft or helicopter without informing traffic controller or higher-ups. This is not how airforce work around the world. Not even in those tiny air forces of sub saharan Africa. It is one complete BS of an excuse.

Pakistan side did not claim as it was a BVR. The way IAF may accept a "Blue on Blue" is less humiliation as compare to accept that it was taken down by one of PAF BVR. Imagine the public reaction then.

Now the second claim will in this continuity that it was a mid air collision with an SU-30. Expect that. A PAF jet was in dog fight with SU-30, IAF locked PAF and then MI-17 came in way which collided with SU in the end. Hence no kill by PAF for both rather own mistake... few head rolled and that's all.

To down a helicopter would not be considered a kill to be proud of by any professional fighter pilot. Even if t was PAF that downed it thinking it was a fighter jet, it would never publicly try to claim "credit" for it.
