The withering Chathe Bridge located near the 4th Mile, on the way to Niuland-Dimapur in Nagaland, collapsed on Tuesday. Ten casualties have been reported so far and four vehicles were left damaged.


According to the Dimapur’s Deputy Commissioner Kesonyu Yhome, four people including a minor died on the spot. Six others have been stated to be injured.

The incident took place in the afternoon hours. Traffic between Niuland and Dimapur has been disrupted ever since.


In 2015, the bridge was planned to be repaired since it was full of potholes and was in a poor condition. Even after the locals raised their concerns, the authorities did not take any measures for it. "
