NEW DELHI, Inda (Hollywood Reporter) - An Indian film will be released officially Friday in Pakistan, a first for two countries that have banned each other's films for more than three decades.

Mumbai-based UTV Motion Pictures' football drama "Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal," starring top actor John Abraham and directed by Vivek Agnihotri, received clearance from the Pakistan Censor Board, making it the first Indian film to get a release in that country.

"Goal," produced for 160 million rupees ($4 million), is set in London's Southall-based Asian community. The film reflects the current trend of sports films, which recently saw a hit in hockey drama "Chak De India" (Buck Up India) featuring superstar Shah Rukh Khan.

The film opens in Pakistan with 12 prints in seven cities including Karachi and Lahore.

"We got the permission because 'Goal' is technically a U.K. production which was funded via a specially set up London-based banner, Aim Films," UTVMP chief operating officer Siddharth Roy Kapur said in an interview. "The Pakistan distribution deal with Lahore-based Eveready Pictures was worked out via our Dubai-based distributor, Al Mansoor Films. Expectedly, there is a lot of excitement in Pakistan given the huge popularity of Bollywood stars there."

Kapur added that "Goal" has been released with 450 prints in India, with 130 overseas.

Nah man I think Bollywood came out with pretty nice movies..
I found Namastey London very very avg.. I liked Sawariya, OSO was mindless but pretty watchable, Bhool Bulaiya was not bad, Hey Baby was actually pretty cool as well..
and my 2 fav movies of the year.. Bheja Fry and Ek Chalis ki Last Local absolutely crazy movies..

I think ever since the 2000's bollywood is producing excellent cinema...

The cinema in Pakistan can only survive if they play movies of good standerd they maybe indian or from other countries.

I think it's gone crap. The only worthwhile movies are the comedy ones.

Like Hera Pheri and Munna Bhai. I heard there's a sequel to Hera Pheri?

Geo was making good Pakistani movies, I hope they get back on track with it.

I generally hate Indian comedies they are very slapstick.. I prefer the Hollywood when it comes to comedy.. I watch Indian movies for the sheer spectacle, joie de vivre and impossibility

Watch Bheja Fry and Ek Chalis ki Last Local very sophisticated and subtle humour.. excellent movies, low budget.. no songs and not popular in the mainstream.. exactly my cup of tea..

try Rituparno Gosh's bengali movies or better still Iranian Films if you like intelligent cinema..

LIke Dullah jatt?? or Nargis one's??
the best Pakistani movies IMO are by the Faisalbadi guys on youtube... I am not that proficient in Punjabi but they are worth a watch..

Dude it's Maula Jatt. And that dude can beat up Matrix's Neo.

No I was talking about the recent movies, like Khuda Ke liye.

Police story(hope got the title correct this time around??) with subtitles was way better than Departed IMO..

Yep when it comes to weapons.. Gandasa can beat Nukes..

There are no disabled people. Only people who have met Maula Jatt..
Maula Jatt's Gandasa Blow is so powerful, it can be seen from outer space by the naked eye.
LOL

No I was talking about the recent movies, like Khuda Ke liye.

Never heard of it...

. . . .
by showing crappy bolly movies like goal , the industry is only demeaning itself in the eyes of ordinary pakistanis

Bullshit...don't be a sissy. There is nothing "demeaning" about a crappy movie.

Sheesh dude..where's your self respect gone?

.
I saw 'Cheeni Kum' last week & surprisingly it was a very refreshing movie. Both, Amitabh & Tabu excelled in their roles. Definately recommended..

Khuda Key Liye is a Geo production directed by Shoaib Mansoor. It recently got silver, second place in the best movie category. That was in the Cairo Film Festival, which is a pretty big achievement. It is also a hit in India, it was shown in a festival there as well. Plus it has Iman Ali in it... english name is In The Name Of God
