Deliveries of fifth-generation fighters to Russia's Air Force will start in 2015 rather than in 2013 as previously announced, the Air Force chief said on Tuesday.

"In 2013, I hope... the [Sukhoi] PAK FA prototype will be ready and fine-tuned, and we will start deliveries to military units in 2015," said Col. Gen. Alexander Zelin.

A prototype of the fighter made its maiden flight in Russia's Far East on January 29. Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said after the 47-minute flight that the first batch of fifth-generation fighters would go into service in 2013.

Russia has been developing its newest fighter since the 1990s. The current prototype, known as the T-50, was designed by the Sukhoi design bureau and built at a plant in Komsomolsk-on-Amur.

Russian officials have already hailed the fighter as "a unique warplane" that combines the capabilities of an air superiority fighter and attack aircraft.

good, but it didn't support the 3D TCV on it:what::what:

Thats what I am saying. It will reduce IR and RCS but only supports 1D (as for this), 2D (as for F-22). SU-30MKI, SU-35 and Mig-35 nozzles support 3D TVC.

Since FGFA will be designed for two pilots, its shape will be somewhat different from that of PAK FA.

Here is one of the most recent versions of the prototype FGFA.

The streamlined hull shape and small size of the wings, allow FGFA to enter the atmosphere on a ballistic trajectory passing defense systems of the enemy.

(This is a joke)

Can't say about flying but it sure can do a great job as a tank. Jokin.

Looks ugly with huge butt.

And can anyone explain to me why should we give up 3D TVC in fear of IR homing missile. As far as i know, IR can be launched from aircraft at your tail and can have maximum range of 30 km.

Pakfa radars and AWACs would be able to intercept hostile target in range of 300 KM.Of course. Pakfa would have uni-directional lobe and AWACs would have 360 degree coverage like half wave dipole.

Most possibly, Fighter aircraft would butt head against each other rather than tail chase. Would anyone be able to come within 50 KM of Pakfa to fire heak seeker missile ?

Moscow, April 8. Today from Komsomolsk-na-Amur in the military-transport aircraft of Russian Air Force AN-124 "Ruslan" on the airfield Flight Research Institute. Gromov in Zhukovsky near Moscow, delivered the first flight model aviation complex of the fifth generation (PAK FA), as well as an integrated ground tests, which is carried out working out the equipment and systems in support of the program of flight tests.

After assembly fighter Sukhoi will continue in late April - early May flight tests. In the integrated simulator will be of the systems and equipment the aircraft.

Currently, successfully completed the first phase of testing, which consisted of six flights, during which an assessment of stability and controllability of the aircraft, engine and major systems and substantially increase the range of speeds and altitudes test of a fighter. Compared with previous generations of fighters, PAK FA has number of unique features, combining the functions of attack aircraft and fighter. The aircraft is equipped with a fifth-generation an entirely new set of avionics, the integrating function of the "e-pilot", and promising radar with a phased array.

This greatly reduces the load on the pilot and can concentrate on the implementation of tactical tasks. On-board equipment of the new aircraft allows the exchange of data in real time as a land-management systems, and within the aviation group. The use of composites and innovative technology, aerodynamic design plane, measures to reduce the visibility engine provides unprecedented low level of radar, optical, and infrared visibility. This can greatly increase the combat effectiveness in the work, both by air and ground targets, at any time of day, in simple and adverse weather conditions.
