Indian Domestic Help's Hand Allegedly Chopped Off By Employer in Saudi Arabia
CHENNAI: The right hand of a 58-year-old Indian woman was chopped off by her employer in Saudi Arabia after she tried to escape the house where she worked as a domestic help, the family of the victim has said.
Seeking help to bring Kashturi Munirathinam back from Saudi Arabia, her family has sought help from the state and central governments.
They say she was harassed, tortured and not even given enough food to eat by the people she worked for.
"When she tried to escape harassment and torture, her right hand was chopped off by the woman employer. She fell down and sustained serious spinal injuries," S Vijayakumari, sister of Munirathinam, told PTI.
She said Kashturi had gone to Saudi Arabia to work as a domestic help only three months ago. The incident happened on the night of September 29.
"Kashturi's employer was angered after she apprised local officials about the harassment she was facing there, she was not even provided food," she said.
DMK lawmaker Kanimozhi has also sent a letter to External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj seeking her help.
Her family said they got to know about the incident through agents who sent her to Saudi Arabia. They now have a video message recorded with a mobile phone.
"She has now been hospitalised in Riyadh and is in a serious condition, our appeal is please bring her back home immediately and help in her treatment," she said.
Kashturi's sister lives in Chennai and her family is in their village Moongilarei in Vellore district in Tamil Nadu.
PS: To be honest, apart from all political strategic blah blah agendas, India needs to send a strong message to these people that behave like humans. Don't become Jahiliyas. It's true lot's of blue collar job people stay there but , this is not the way they should treat some one from not their country. Be it India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, or Philippines.
