Indian defense forces could join fight against ISIS soon

I support India taking part in the actions against IS. But with no boots on the ground. And its not possible to defeat IS with no boots on the ground. Taking part in Aerial Bombardment is almost a waste , as Western countries are already Bombarding them day and night with little effective control.

We can send troops only if NATO commits troops. I believe, if India does commit Fighters and troops, Russia would step in directly.

We should in no way send thousands and thousands of troops in a full fledged war.Instead stick to bombing ISIS targets or sending small amount troops or stick to special forces..

Sending AF is no use at all. AF is effective only if boots are on the ground. It destroys locations, not peoples. NATO had already informed the ineffectiveness the AF strikes only.

Even if we send, send them along with proper guidelines. ISIS does not take prisoners, does not recognise Red Cross and will torture you before cutting your head on TV. So when you select personnel, select them who wants to fight for justice, for women and children and does not care about coming home and have a cynide capsule ready...just in case. And also do not try to take a prisoner as ISIS does not care about its fighters being taken prisoner (as it is not in favour of any swap deal). It is just plain Adventure and action type movie where you fight for justice..kill or be killed!!

BTW I would like to see IA, PA and PLA fighting side by side.

This would be a great decision. Being a super power India should sends its troops immediately to counter the emerging Islamic terrorism.

Why do you label ISIS as "Islamic terrorism" ? It is a fact that they are nothing short of anarchists using Islam as a label to recruit for their own political agenda. Please grow up

On topic. India would do well to stay out of this mess. Any military operations out of India should be done under the flag of the UNO and as UN personnel.

Obviously. I am growing

If anyone have seen few videos of ISIS anarchy, their theories, their world wide support and their torture videos and mass killings of Minority Yazidi people and taking their women as sex slaves must say we should contribute our ways to destroy this evil.

And the only way the region is gonna stabilize is if the Iraqis get their shit together. No foreign power will bring stability to that region... only the Iraqis themselves will achieve that.

But obviously they do need help... India will not send troops to Iraq, but as a democracy and member of the UN its out duty to help them. Logistics and training are the best we can do to help them.

God I hope this isn't true. India needs to play its usual non-aligned role in this mess, there is no right side just the devil and the deep blue sea.

There is an argument that has been made that fight these scum in the ME or you'll be fighting them in Kashmir in a few years time, I'm not sure I buy that argument but I am sure that if India gets involved in this fight it will open itself up to the same sort of pain Australia and Canada have encountered with wannabe IS nut jobs committing atrocities on the streets. IS doesn't have as large a following in India as compared to these Western countries BUT it only takes a few idiots.....

India should flex its pecs and clear the mess.
But I doubt the veracity of this news.
There is no military solution to that mess @levina. Sending ground troops to that part of the world is just inviting bloodshed on both sides with little resolution. India has accumulated a very positive image there, why destroy it? And I personally don't want to see Indian soldiers coming home in bodybags and paying for the sins of the West.

This is not India's fight.

.
Its been done before by "freedom fighters". We have the experience in dealing with it

Not in India cities, and not against a determined adversary who wants victory or death.......and never far away from home, not like this.

The news source is Tehelka. Not worth the paper or bandwidth it is printed on.

A small Indian token contingent will be useful - live coordination between multiple powers, real targets, and battlefield experience. Even if not in a combat role, just sending a token 5 men team will earn lots of goodies. Also remember that the Air Force has got nothing to play with, other than routine exercises. Just saying.
This is not a conflict for tokenism. You are either all in or all out, any "token" participation will be taken the same way as a full force participation by these IS scumbags.

Well, would be interesting to see the blow back among the resident ISIS supporters and how such a blowback would politically effect the country.
"Interesting" is not the right word bro, the blow back would be potentially deadly, nothing interesting about that.

We 'd literally burnt our fingers back then and it was for the same reason we later declined help to Nepal and Maldives.
In the Maldives case India had no reason to intervene @levina but I agree that, to an extent, the IPKF still casts a long shadow today and perhaps this is a good thing, it means political leaders are not committing Indian forces willy nilly around the globe for other people's fights.

The experience that our troops get will only be a bonus.
The IA doesn't need to go abroad for experience, for COIN experience they have more than enough hands-on experience in JK and the NE and don't need lessons from anyone on that.

And lets not forget that India figures among the 11 countries the Islamic State has threatened. We will have to face ISIS sooner or later.
This is a valid point but I think India needs to be smart about the way it goes about tackling this threat- go after the supporters of IS in India (doing a decent job so far), tackle and attempts to make inroads into India by IS and then help the Western intel agencies with any information they need o the IS threat.

You cannot deny the awesomeness of an Indian CBG in the persian gulf. It would be some much needed experience for our naval and air units who are stuck doing military excersices.

It would be a display of power yes but save it for more noble causes, there is little tangible military benefit for sending the CBG to that part of the world and you can expect blowback from such a move.

NATO is not inclined to send troops (again) into Iraq or Syria, they are looking to outsource this to India (again). Remember back in 2003 when Bush was trying so hard to get India to commit two divisions to Iraq, the GoI made a very intelligent call and told them it wasn't India's fight and realised that it was a hopeless cause. The Indian military at the time told the politicians that the number of forces needed to stabilise Iraq were far more than the US was looking to commit and even with two divisions of Indian forces it wouldn't be enough, the politicians listened and look how right the Indian military's assessment was.

This just reminds me of the colonial era where the British Empire got Indian troops to fight their colonial wars for them except this time there is no British Empire there is just the Western world.

if wishes were horses pigs would fly

But only for those who would have such disgusting wishes :)

Sniff Sniff.

I smell some support for ISIS from the SiPeM. :)

Honestly, that's what you concluded from my post? I can only pity your reasoning skills.

I think that ISIS is a major threat to the whole world, its barbarity and cruelty has no equal......except maybe TTP. And it has a large following already. I also believe that it is a strategic force against many of US enemies, and some friends who are being stubborn.

And I have no idea what you wanted to put across with the bold and underlined word.

.
Ah yes. I do believe that India will not get involved in the BS and invite wrath of terrorists within its cities. But........how I would love to see India actually do it and get engaged in return, get a taste of its own medicine.
You mean, like what happened with Pakistan after the Soviet-Afghan war, Kashmir insurgency etc? Well, not every country is foolish enough to rush in where it has no business and reap the results.

. .
Lol

I think pakistan will take the bait and jump in just like wot.

.
Yes yes yes Obama you da man, you finally got Indians involved in a mess, Happy Dance :chilli:
