As a Pakistani, I can tolerate a lot of things which are wrong simply because a large number of fellow Pakistanis don't have a problem with them. This is a price we pay for being members of society even in the west. In the west, I tolerate open ghandugiri and immoral foreign policy which benefits MIC and makes life hell for the poor. But west is not my spiritual home so no dog in the fight.
Pakistan is different. It is personal so it is much more bothersome. I shrug my shoulder at corruption because fellow Pakistanis vote for corrupt people. Likewise, I accept gundagee and ghalazuth. Worst of all, I tolerate the fact that, in the Islamic republic, rich and powerful people can abuse powerless at whim. I hate the fact that ten year old girls work as domestic servants without any protection from society or social services. These things bother me but I think of God's will and move on.
But I draw red line at ghadaree. I cannot accept it. And what we have at the helm now are ghadaars. In the mid-nineties, when news of Surrey Mahal came out, BB went at great lengths to deny ownership. But now our rulers openly flaunt Mayfair property ownership. Our senior army qiyadth spends weeks hobnobbing with the very people reigning death on innocent Palestinian children on a daily basis.
Anyone who says the current army leadership is cut from the same cloth as previous leaders are smoking crack. No way would the current leadership be able to develop nuclear weapons. In fact it will be a big miracle if they avoid reversal. In the past, army responded to Siachen with Kargil. The current lot can barely muster a statement when a missile crosses our border.
Its no surprise that Indians are getting bolder. Even they recognise the ghudaars at the helm. Question is will Pakistani society normalize ghadaari? Signs are not good and I am glad I am a dual national.
