We have seen the practice of not marrying outside the clan specially in Rajput families in Pakistan.

but marrying within the clan as a taboo is a new thing for me

Its not exactly the Clan or "Kula" as in Sanskrit.I said clan for lack off a better english synonym.

Its about being of same "Gotra"...problably the most closer knit entitiy next to the family...so in some section of hindu society its taken as just like being in the same family.

And what is a closer knit entity within a family in this case other than Sisters, Mother, daughters, grand daughters.

arihant unfortuantly this punchayat system is too ****** and unfortunatly this moral policing by every tom dick and whatever is so strong in our societies that at times i wonder how come these people find time to intefere in lives of others.

Societies in subcontinent are not liberal in rural areas such behavior is not encouraged they only punished the boy and made the girl to tie Rakhi.

And the girl was not killed for honour.

I said same Gotra means a closer knit entity thats beyond ur own family...they include mostly ur relatives from ur fathers side e,g uncles,cousins and also their extended family.

to put it simply. people who have the same surname are of same gotra. hindus believe that all are dessendents of rishi etc... and dessendents of a particular rishi belongs to one gotra. so, two persons of same surname are considered siblings. now, things get very complicated when you put love into these equations.

Its actually funny that people of sub-continent find crimes of the others as justification of their own. When Indian friends should have condemened this action, they went on searching for News against Muslims (that is one reason why Muslims in India feel less of a citizen) and against Pakistan. People make mistakes and sins irrespective of their believes and religions. When such crimes/sins are noticed, we should Identify them as Crimes/Sins instead of absorbing them to the clan and putting justification for them. Even if we find similar crime in the other Nation, how is that a justification for committing the same?
