Indian capital faces water crisis as supply cut from Ganges June 14, 2010

The Indian national capital New Delhi has been facing water crisis as water supply to the city from Upper Ganges canal has been cut by an agitating group of people called Jats in neighboring state of Uttar Pradesh, reported the Press Trust of India Monday.

The Jats is a group of people brought up in the states of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh in northern India.

The agitating group closed water supply from the Upper Ganges Canal at Abupur in Uttar Pradesh from where water comes to two water treatment plants in New Delhi which cater to 40 percent requirement of total water in the national capital, said the report.

New Delhi Chief Secretary is holding talks with officials in Uttar Pradesh to restore water supply, according to the report.
