COLOMBO: Indian business enterprises showed keen interest in the inaugural edition of the Sri Lanka Premier League and bought all the seven contesting franchises on offer, even as the BCCI decided not to allow its players to participate in the Twenty20 league.

The Indian Cricket Board (BCCI) had even last year prohibited its players from participating in the league, which forced the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) to abort the opening season of the SLPL.

While Wadhawan Holdings shelled out the highest bid -- $5.02 million -- for Wayamba, Number One Sports Consulting offered a bid of $4.98 million for Kandurata.

The Uva and Ruhuna went to Success Sports and Pearl Overseas respectively for an amount of $4.6 million.

Basnahira was bought by Indian Cricket Dundee at $4.33 million, while Uthura at $3.4 million went to Rudra Sports.

Varun Beverages, meanwhile, spent $3.22 million for Nagenahira.

The debut edition of the SLPL is scheduled to commence from August 10, with the final to be held on August 31.

The matches will be played at capital city Colombo and the central province's Pallekele.

The franchises will be allowed a maximum of 18 players, including six foreign cricketers, for registration. However, a team can play only two foreigners in the playing eleven.

The value of each player will be decided by SLC in the player draft to be held on July 5 and 6.

Sound investment.

These teams are going to worth three times their current worth very soon.

Lol...its all Indian nowadays when it comes to cricket. Even the company which organized Bangladesh Premier League was an Indian company.

I have been listening to the news that Pakistan is coming up with its own Premier League. Are we organizing that too?

LOL I came into this section to post this news and it was already up... correct me if I am wrong but the "business houses" mentioned in the article aren't even big timers in India, right? Hopefully they made a sound investment. Anyway, it's unfortunate that Indian players have not been allowed to participate by the BCCI.

Apparently, the Big Timers are away in investing their money in something BIG.

I guess the Indian cricketers have a whole lot of money gained from such(cricket) stuffs that they need not stroll to some B-Grade cricket league.

They should have the choice to participate if they wish and not be prohibited from doing so by the BCCI.

they can't just go playing on for private franchises........they need to play for the nation also......anyways as it is India's cricket is tightly jammed packed with all tours and IPL ...and they also require some rest in between.......If u let them free ..everybody will play in just this private franchise......:fie:
& then i will have to step in to save the nation image with bat and guard:D

Well at least those Indian players who are not selected in national teams should be allowed to participate. They would not only earn some money but gain experience in the process.

That reduces the talent pool for IPL which is BCCI baby made from copying ICL.

ICL was one of a kind. All the cricket boards collaborated to bring down ICL.

Now we have IPL. Now BCCI decides who to play and when to play. Other boards dont have a chance against IPL now.
