TIRUCHI: Scientists of Indian origin at National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) have evinced interest in moving to Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) after the Chandrayaan – 1 success, Mylswamy Annadurai, Project Director, Chandrayaan 1 & 2, said here.

“Scientists have begun to approach the ISRO. Their requests will be considered on a case to case basis in keeping with our requirements.”

It will be done without disturbing the equilibrium of motivation among the ISRO scientists, Mr. Annadurai said.

He was hopeful of accomplishing the Rs. 425-crore Chandrayaan – 2 project by 2012. The satellite with a payload of 2,700 kg to be launched using Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle will be engineered to send two rovers on moon surface for a duration between six months to one year for carrying out chemical analysis of samples through laser induced heating.

As of now, 150 scientists and engineers, including Russians, are working on the project. A parallel process is on for accomplishing manned mission to Moon by 2015, Mr. Annadurai said.

On its part, the ISRO was contributing to avoid possibilities for space debris by cataloguing the locations of the existing satellites prior to making launches, propelling geostationary satellites above the orbit before the end of its utility period, and increasing the lifespan of the satellites, he said, responding to another question.

So now everything is going good with ISRO, Indians over at NASA want to join in aswell?
Don't you think that's a little....well...you know..
Why did they go for NASA in the first place? Because ISRO wasn't that much advanced right back then?

ISRO was not that good earlier. Pays were also less but now after 6th pay commission has come all the govt employees are going to get Good salary even more then Corporate guys.

And moreover It would be more good for ISRO if pepoles from Nasa joins it. they would be having too much Exp...:victory::victory:

ISRO s very choosy!!! I managed to get an internship in NASA while I was pursuing undergrad studies but could never manage a position in ISRO!!!:frown: In fact most reputed organizations in India are. Haven't you heard, it is easier to get into an IV league than an IIT!!!

Look at what Annadurai said:

Meaning, he doesn't care if you are from NASA or anywhere, if we have a requirement and your profile suits that, only then will we take you. Oh! and by the way 150,000 candidates applied this year to ISRO for just 500 openings, so there s no shortage of talent in ISRO. In fact some of the rejected candidates might eventually end up in NASA. Also, the remuneration in ISRO some yrs back was just about a tenth of what one would get in NASA! Things are more even now, with the economy doing so well.

I suggest 1thng that ISRO should select only those candidates who has speciality in several fields....

We should :welcome: our scientists who deserves and their experience helps country's development.

My salary had jumped from 6.5 to 9.5 lakhs due to the 6th pay commission.

Its good news we must call our scientist and doctors from US or West . we need them if we want India to be super power.

From what I remember, the IIT degrees don't count for much at ISRO anymore. The Aerospace engineering department at IIT's was set up at IIT's as a feeder for DRDO/ISRO, but they no longer are.

DRDO and ISRO have a substantial pay difference for graduate and post-graduate engineers, so it is almost always better to complete an MS/MTech before you join them. IISc/Foreign universities are a better place compared to IIT's for masters. Those who go abroad end up working there for a while before returning (except for those who have thought their life through). That's probably what we are seeing here.

IIT degrees count only if ISRO and DRDO go for campus recruitment to the IITs. Otherwise, the selection procedure is standardized. You take the written test just like anyone else. If you clear the cutoff then you are called for personal interview. So, it doesn’t matter if you are from IIT or any other institute. What matters is your aptitude for the job. Some of my batch mates at IIT-B couldn’t clear the written round while some couldn’t clear the interview. This just shows that the recruitment is merit based and your degree doesn’t count much.

The Aerospace engineering department at IIT's was set up at IIT's as a feeder for DRDO/ISRO, but they no longer are.

That is true. But, possessing an aerospace engineering degree is not a prerequisite to join these institutions. If you split up aerospace Engineering into sub-specializations, you have Structures, Controls, Aerodynamics and Propulsion. An aerospace engineer vying to get into DRDO or ISRO is expected to be good in all these sub-domains. But due to the nature of research carried out at ISRO/DRDO the demand is more for specialists. So, a good mechanical engineer with good knowledge of fluid dynamics and CFD can easily excel in Aerodynamics, a civil/mech engineer can do a good job in structures, chemical engineer in propulsion and electrical/electronics engineer in Controls can do a far better job than aerospace engineers in their respective domains.

DRDO and ISRO have a substantial pay difference for graduate and post-graduate engineers, so it is almost always better to complete an MS/MTech before you join them.

The pay difference is not substantial. With a BE/BTech degree you get in as a Scientist-B while with an MS/MTech/PhD you get in as Scientist C. Just one grade difference that s it. Pay difference may be in the range of 5-10k/month.

IISc is a good place to pursue masters. But the seats are limited. Only the top 20 GATE rankers make it to IISc every year. However, IISc or foreign university, you don’t get any brownie points for that. You have to come through the normal selection procedure of written test and interview.
