Indian Ballistic Missile better than American: DRDO scientist

this a great news for the Indian . as it will counter all the aggresion of our two neigbour missile program and we all can have a sound sleep:toast_sign:

Indian BMD test success, third time in a row

Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has flight tested a Ballistic Missile Interceptor for the third time on 06 March 2009 at 1624 hrs from Wheeler Island, Integrated Test Range (ITR) successfully achieving the mission objectives set. The two stage Interceptor Missile fitted with advanced systems has neutralized the target, enemy missile at 75 Kms altitude. Click For Pictures

To mimic the incoming enemy’s ballistic missile trajectory Dhanush missile went to an altitude of 120 Km and was launched from ship about 100 km away from Coast. The Interceptor missile was launched using mobile launcher located on Wheeler Island Launch Complex.

I don't know how come people of India still allow DRDO to get away with crap like that.

"PAC III is an outdated system. Our Advanced Air Defence (AAD) missile is 30 percent superior in terms of range and capability. AAD intercepts at much higher ranges and altitudes compared to PAC III as it has only 15km range for BMD"

Is AAD at least operational ? Its using liquid fuel and at its early stage of development.May in 10 or 15 years it may become operational.Comparing PAC with AAD is too much I feel :)

BMD system contains two missiles PAD and AAD. PAD has been test ed two times and AAD one time and all tests are successful. Dr. Saraswat has differentiated the system range and capability. What is wrong there?

What makes you think it will take 10-15 years? Care to back up with some logic.

PAC has a history of 20+ years ,fully operational and battle tested. What about AAD ?

Patriot considered to be a major success when it was developed ,But when it was operational it was not that effective as expected.Always enemy thinks much better than what we think :) That why I say testing may be a great success but how can you be so sure if Patriot such a system failed in battle field ? We know about DRD too :)

Can you put some more logical post rather then a speculative one.

Third Successful Test of Ballistic Missile Interceptor

India today inched closer towards its endeavour to put in place its own home-grown Ballistic Missile Defence System as it successfully carried out the third Interceptor test today at 1624 hrs from Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Wheeler Island in Orissa.

The mission control room burst into raptures as the radar display indicated the interception and destruction of the decoy enemy missile by the interceptor. Today’s test achieved all the mission objectives. The two-stage Interceptor Missile fitted with advanced systems hit the target enemy missile at 75 kms altitude.

To mimic the incoming enemy’s ballistic missile trajectory, Dhanush missile went to an altitude of 120 Km and was launched from ship about 100 km away from the Orissa Coast. The Interceptor missile was launched from a mobile launcher located on Wheeler Island Launch Complex.

The third consecutive interception of Ballistic Missiles once again demonstrated the robustness of the Indian Ballistic Missile Defence (BMD) system. The Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) have already conducted two interception trials, first in Exo-atmospheric region at 48 Kms altitude on 27th November 06 and second in endo-atmospheric region at 15 kms using Advanced Air Defence (AAD) missile on 06 Dec 07.

The missile interception trial was witnessed by the DRDO Chief Shri M Natarajan, Air Defence Programme Director Dr VK Saraswat, senior Scientists from DRDO, senior officers from Armed Forces and Government officials. The Defence Minister Shri A K Antony has congratulated the scientific community of DRDO for the third consecutive success in achieving Ballistic Missile Defence capability.

'something is better than nothing'
if this project has really the potential as they are stating then Pakistan has to think twice to do something stupid bcoz their nukes can't save them next time:sniper:

Not so fast, let it get fully operational first and secondly this system cant stop when about 10 or more missiles are coming. :agree:

But yes sure India will get abit of deterrence for some time in event of a attack.

have you gone through the posts that y its better than PAC 3.
it has detection capacity of 200 targets and engagement.

.
and before you know it India will buy the american PAC3 system!

PAC3 was offered to India long back. We simply refused the system. This offer was basically to stop India from developing any advanced missile defence system n make us reliable on American systems. In fact they still push for this system. India has chosen the Israeli Arrow-2 system over the PAC3 as a stop gap measure till the DRDO system is ready.

btw I was speaking to an ex advisor to the def minister of India. He told me more than what I can reveal here regarding India's missile defense.

The DRDO system is a two pahse one. Once the first phase is ready it will be installed to protect most sensitive installations in India like Nuke reactors, major cities, major defense industries. DRDO believes that they can achieve more than 99% efficiency if they protect limited targets.

The phase two project will take the system one step further n will encompass very very sophisticated radars n detection systems built ingeniously or with whatever foreign help available. India will settle only for the very best. MOD is ready to invest anything into the project if DRDO promises a fool proof system.

A complete Indian ballistic missile defense strategy would have been drawn by the time the second phase is ready. This will include ariel surveillance using UAVs, spy sattelites, AWACS etc. HUMINT will also be involved to a large extent. ISRO s also cooeperating in building some of the meanest spy satellites ever built by India. ISRO already has the capability to to build satellites with 1m resolution (CARTOSAT). Future spy satellites will have less than 10cm resolution. (btw an Israeli spy satellite with 12cm res was launched by ISRO PSLV recently). With this it is believed that India will be able to detect any nuclear activity in Pakistan and China and other suspect countries well before the launch of any missile.

Once everything is in place a command centre will be set up for 24/7/365 monitoring. If everything goes according to plan the missile defense shield is expected to cover the entire country from threats from IRBMS, ICBMS, cruise missiles and even aircrafts. The basic defense will start from long range SAMs, PAD, AAD n whatever will come out of the 2nd phase.

India plans to have the most comprehensive missile defense shield in the world by 2020 incorporating all that I have mentioned above. The PAD n AAD will be in place in limited nums to protect sensitive targets by 2011-2012. The second phase will be in place by 2015-2016 and the entire shield completed by 2020. 2020 will be the magic number for Indian military.

you seem to underestimate the enemy's capabilities. 10 is nothing. The missile defense is designed for over 200 simultaneous launches. The MOD wont invest in any system unless it is fool proof when all the current best systems like Arrow n PAC3 are available off the shelf.

Indian missile defense program goes far beyond PAD n AAD. Read my post above. You will get a better idea. When ready, the system will be able to take out anything from the Indian airspace-aircrafts, IRBMS, ICBMS, cruise missiles, decoys, duds, anything. That s why it s called a shield.
