Akshay Venkatesh, a mathematician of Indian origin, was one of four winners of the Fields medal announced on Wednesday. The Fields medal, often regarded as the Nobel Prize for mathematics, is given every four years to mathematicians under the age of 40.

Venkatesh, 36, won the medal. He got the award for his use of dynamics theory, which studies the equations of moving objects to solve problems in number theory, according to The Guardian.

Venkatesh was born in New Delhi but his family moved to Perth when he was two. He earned his PhD at the age of 20, according to PTI. He currently teaches at Stanford University.

The other three winners were mathematicians Caucher Birkar, Peter Scholze and Alessio Figalli. Birkar is a Cambridge University professor of Iranian origin, Scholze teaches at the University of Bonn in Germany, and Figalli is an Italian mathematician at ETH Zurich.

Each winner receives a cash prize of 500,000 US dollars.

“A lot of the time when you do math, you’re stuck, but at the same time there are all these moments where you feel privileged that you get to work with it,” Venkatesh was quoted as saying. “You have this sensation of transcendence, you feel like you’ve been part of something really meaningful.”

The winners got the medal at the International Congress of Mathematicians in Rio de Janeiro. The prize was first given in 1932.

Well he is an Indian-origin individual who has used or taken advantage of the Aussie education system and lifestyle to succeed. A Fields Medal is a remarkable achievement. He can easily go back to India and become a CEO because of his hefty resume.

Why would he even think about going back to a country that has given him nothing? A country that has so many problems everywhere you look, there are more slaves in India than even in Africa, why would he want to go back? Ask any Indian who has made a good life for themselves in Australia if they would even consider going back to India and you will see for yourself.

Secondly, you cann't have both ways. If he turns out to be a sick then Australian education system and culture is to be blamed. If he goes on a shooting spree: same again. If he is a closet druggie: same again.

That is a possibility but it didn't happen, yet here we have Indians claiming he is one of their own when India had no part to play in what he has become.

He will still be Aussie if he killed someone, lots of Indians came here on education visas committed crimes but since they weren't citizens of Australia they weren't Australian.

In 2011 when Indians were claiming Aussies were racist did you know they were killing themselves and blaming racist "Australians"?

Ok You can take credit we do not mind. We have so many great personalities doing exceptional work of transforming the world into a better place. They are beyond and recolonization. So we won't mind if you deny us that credit. Infact, we are happy that one of the Indian gave you chance to get that honor. Had it been because of your education system, many in your country would have got that Honor. I do not know how many Australians have got this honor.
