The perpetrators of this heinous act need to be punished to the fullest extent of the law.



There is an underlying cause here, it's the blatant misogyny that is present in the, for the lack of a better term; "Hindustani" culture.


Rapists are further emboldened by reports of Police asking rape victims "which rapist pleasured them the most", not to mention cultural practices revolving around worshipping phalluses.


I can list a few causes from the top of my head, namely :

- Lack of education; specially sex education.

- Indifference and Impunity shown by the authorities including the security forces, who have themselves been caught perpetrating similar heinous acts.

- Sexually suggestive songs and movies being pandered by Bollywood.

Bollywood portrays a world where women are very loose, easy going and bedding them is as easy as just asking once.

Many men who watch these movies quite understandably give these "exploits" a go but only to get turned down for whatever reasons, this rejection results in rage, which translates into acts of sexual violence such as rape and acid attacks, sometimes even murder.

- A culture built around tenets of misogyny and male superiority.

Quite plainly put, Hinduism is a belief system that openly promotes and portrays Males as superior beings. This is also a common theme in many other belief systems.

- A society that stigmatises and vilifies the victim, rather than a rapist.

Indeed, sometimes the rapists are found living their regular lives unscathed even after news of their act is page known to the public. I'm sure many even "congratulate" them.

- Backward practises such as Phallic worship et al. that revolve around revering male genitalia.

Many rapists have admitted that they believe they were "liberating" and/or "purifying" their victims by violating them with their "sacred" phalluses.




These are all the ones I could think right now, but I'm sure there are more.

Maybe our resident Indians can tell us a bit more.

To know how and why a rapist does the deed, one has to think like a rapist.



Many of the factors listed above are also applicable to other nations in the neighborhood, which is why this post must be taken as is, no subliminal messages or veiled insults in here.



Rape is a crime, let's all work together to end it.

Putting an end to rape means putting an end to the societal practices and beliefs that promote misogyny and by extension rape.


Perhaps, "Indian" culture as listed above needs to be dismantled, misogynist bits redacted and carefully reassembled.

Whether doing so will rob it of its core values, is debatable, but then again should misogyny go unchallenged just because it's a core tenet of a millennia old backward belief systems ?

Anyhow, this is just my opinion as an outsider concerned for the women who find themselves in such situations.


What the Indians choose to do about this situation is upto them, all I can do is hope someone steps in to save Sita for once.

funny thing is that most of what we consider "Indian food" is actually Muslim food made in the Mughal kitchens.

Most people in India didn't really use paneer until it became a substitute for meat in the Muslim food curries.
