Indian army to upgrade infantry weapons (New Assault Rifle)

private sector can be involved to serve demands from IA, not beyond that. Domestic Fire arm policies are good as they prevent accidents like what happened in US this year or what happens in pakistan daily. DRDO has developed good rifles like TAR, kalantak, MSMC. Much more can be achieved, provided IA takes some interest and puts some effort along with DRDO.

What is wrong with TAR? no kickbacks??

^Sure......... Kalantak and MSMC both failed army trails, not even police force wants to use em. As far as Trichy assault rifle is concerned, local operations in colarado operating with 5 guys in the shop fabricate better AK variants.

Nothing new in failing trials. What excuse did IA give for that?

and they couldn't find buyers in Air force, navy BSF, Coast guard... please look at msmc, kalantak or tar and compare with any PDW or assault rifles, dissatisfaction is obvious.

As far as "Domestic Fire arm policies are good as they prevent accidents like what happened in US this year", there are 270,000,000 civilian firearms in US, compare to the casualty rate ratio.... National highways/Doctors/snake bites in India are bigger killers in comparison.

I dont care about domestic gun policies of India, even if they reform export control laws, there can be some progress.

Whats wrong with these guns that cannot be rectified? ppl say IA had quality issues, how importing design from outside and manufacturing in OFB will solve the problem?

It wont, as simple as that. Premier padmini's cannot compete with mini coopers, simple. Or else license produce as you have always.

The TAR has barely any of the features the IA was looking for on the F-INSAS rifle.

What does it mean for India's own Assault rifle program ?

what is there to happen ,as the rest of the rifles except the initial lot will be manufactured here the industry will benefit........this is the new trend in procurement, US is buying hk-416,SCAR,IAR from outside, france is planning to replace famas with hk-416 does this mean US and france cannot make small arms LOL when it comes to small arms we have to give our troops and our industry the best and where the technology comes from is of little concern.

US is buying HK-416 and SCARs for their Spec ops which every country does for diversity but their mainstay rifle is an American Rifle. That applies to all other countries ie France, Germany, Britain, China etc

The fact is the winning rifle will come with full ToT and all the rifles after the first 60,000 will be manufactured in India, that means in excess of 1 MILLION rifles will be made by Indian companies. The UK is looking to replace the SA-80 with the M4 or somthing along these lines, similarly France is looking to replace the FAMAS with a HK design. The US would buy the HK for all infantry in a heartbeat if it wasn't for political considerations. This option is still on the table for the US.

Indian small arms industry will benefit from this mammoth purchase and the industry can possibly deliver later.

CZ-805 BREN, comes in 5.56MM and 7.62MM NATO.

It must be a serious contender.

Beretta ARX160 has some maintenance and reliability issues like the M4.

I agree, for me the Cska and ARX160 are the two I'd like to see the most win. But for me my number 1 choice would be the ARX160 and the Ceska number 2 option.

ARX160 too comes in both calibre- in fact all the rifles in the fray do that is mandatory for the IA.

And apprently if the IA makes a larger enough order (which is a given obviously) CESKA will add the 6.8mm calibre to the BREN.
