Indian Army officer caught with narcotics at IGI aiport

NEW DELHI: In an indication of a sudden spurt in smuggling of narcotics through the IGI airport in Delhi, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) seized 85 kg of pseudo-ephedrine from five passangers, one of whom is a serving officer with Assam Regiment of the Indian Army.
This is the fifth such seizure in the past one and half months at the international airport. All consignments were headed to the North-East from where they would be smuggled to Myanmar.
In the latest case, say sources, the CISF intelligence staff observed some suspicious movement in the check-in area of Terminal 1D at around 03:45 am on Wednesday. Because of recent seizures, the CISF was already keeping an eye on passengers leaving for Northeastern states.
These passengers were carrying their luggage in two bags. While passing through X-Ray BIS, images that appeared on the monitor indicated some narcotic substance kept in the bags. When the bags were physically checked by the CISF, tablets weighing 85 Kgs were found.
The tablets were tested with narcotic substance test kit which confirmed them to be "Pseudo-Ephedrine". On enquiry the passengers revealed their names as Lalparmawia, 30, serving with the 3rd Assam Regiment of Indian Army from Shillong (Meghalaya), David Lalnuntluanga, 23, Vin Ramdingngheta, 27, and Ramdim, 22, from Mizoram. They came at 1D Terminal Airport to travel to Kolkata by Go Airways flight No. G8-101 (STD 0550 hrs). They further informed that they are residing at Janakpuri, New Delhi and three of them are working in call centre. On questioning, they informed that they had to hand over the above drugs at Aizwal via Kolkata. The value of the recovered drugs is Rs. 68 Lakhs in Indian market and Rs. 4.08 crores in International market.
Narcotics Control Bureau officials were informed about the recovery of the said drugs, who confirmed that the recovered tablets were ""Pseudo-Ephedrine"". The apprehended passengers along with recovered drugs were handed over to NCB officials for further action.

pseudo-ephedrine is used in over the counter anti cold medication ! i never thought it has addictive properties , but hell u don't know these junkies can eat lizards , iodex and what not for fun . all drug runners should be put to death legally , they are killing future of all our countries , be it INDIA , PAK, CHINA , or else.

I am currently taking "pseudo-ephedrine" for my cold. It is a common drug sold over the counter to open nose block. The price for a strip is around Rs. 10/-

One would assume that in winter when cold and nose blocks are common in the north east, there must be a lot of demand for this medicine in his regiment.

Why again was this office arrested ??

Because pseudo-ephedrine is a controlled substance, and the reason for that is that it is the chemical precursor in the manufacture of methamphetamine (crystal meth).

Ammonium nitrate is used in many common fertilizers, but it is illegal to possess it on your person or to transport it or sell it, because in the right hands (or rather, wrong hands) it can be made into explosives. In other words, its use is strictly controlled, because of the potential illegal stuff that can be made from it. Same thing with pseudo-ephedrine.
