The man handing over the AH-64E model to the IA officer is Rear Adm (retd) Surendra Ahuja, formerly of the IN and who now heads Boeing Defence India.

He was a Sea Harrier and MiG-29K pilot, being one of the first IN pilots to be part of the MiG-29K trials on board Russia's Kuznetsov carrier. He was also the first IN pilot to trap on board a T-45 Goshawk on a US Navy carrier at after undergoing training at Kingsville in Texas.

He was dead set against the Naval LCA Mk1 and Naval LCA Mk2 (both single engine fighters) having done no work on that program and did his best to kill the program. He was promoted ahead of Cmde Maolankar who dedicated his career to the Naval LCA and was penalised for not having been an active duty pilot, despite his superb experience as a Sea Harrier LUSH test pilot and Naval LCA test pilot.

Rear Adm Surendra Ahuja's exit from the IN via early retirement to join Boeing Defence India was a blessing in disguise as it led to the conceiving of the TEDBF soon after.

He had been trying his best to use his connects to get the Super Hornet into the IN ever since. I will personally be overjoyed to see the Rafale M win just so the he doesn't succeed in his plans.

Agra: Indian Army Tests Jetpack Technology for Border Surveillance

Weeks after the Indian Army kickstarted emergency procurement of jetpack suits to bolster its overall surveillance and combat capabilities along sensitive border areas, including borders with China, a demonstration of the device was held at the Indian Army Airborne Training School in Agra, officials said on Tuesday.

A video tweeted by the Indian Aerospace Defence News showed Gravity Industries founder, Richard Browning, giving a demo of its Jetpack system and flying over a water body, buildings and fields in Agra on Monday.

Indian Army to buy 307 ATAGS howitzers for deployment along

The Ministry of Defence has accepted a proposal from the Indian Army to buy 307 Advanced Towed Artillery Gun Systems (ATAGS) for deployment along the borders with China and Pakistan, marking a significant step towards 'Make-in-India' in the defence sector, news agency ANI reported on Wednesday.

The Indian Army has submitted a proposal worth more than USD 1 billion, which is currently being discussed. According to the report, it is anticipated to be cleared soon and given to the Cabinet Committee on Security for approval.

This would be the first order for the indigenous howitzer, which can strike targets at distances of up to 50 kilometres and is considered to be the best gun in its class, as per the report.

The forces have been testing the gun at various elevations and terrains. "They have been upgraded based on user suggestions," the report said.

Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has shared raw howitzer technology and know-how with two private firms, Tata Advanced Systems and Bharat Forge group, and they will offer the system to the troops, which would include around 320 high mobility vehicles.

Between April 26 and May 2, the 155mm/52 calibre Advanced Towed Artillery Gun System (ATAGS) trials were completed at the Pokhran Field Firing Range (PFFR).

The ATAGS is an indigenous towed artillery gun system project undertaken in mission mode by the DRDO as part of the Indian Army's artillery modernization programme, according to the statement.

In addition to other DRDO facilities, the Armament Research and Development Establishment (ARDE) in Pune is the DRDO's nodal laboratory for the design and development of ATAGS.

The development was carried out in collaboration with two industry partners, Tata Advanced Systems Ltd and Bharat Forge Ltd, as well as active engagement from other industries.

Both guns' reliability has been proven by firing many rounds in various zones, including burst, intense, and sustained modes. ANI reported that the DRDO recently stated that high precision and consistency in range and line with maximum range had been obtained.

Excellent!

The order will be split between Tata Advanced Systems Ltd and Bharat Forge. The way it was supposed to work was that the prototypes were built by TASL and BF and of these, the preferred prototype would get something like 60% of the orders while the remaining 40% would go to the other vendor.

Either way, it will be a massive win for DRDO, TASL and BF. The years of investing in the ATAGS to create what is arguably one of the world's best artillery guns will finally bring in some just rewards.

ATAGS has the potential to land big export orders as well. And given that the exports will be driven by the private sector, it will be done with that much more hunger and drive.
