Indian Army looking for Cornershot weapon systems

The Indian Army has launched a global hunt for corner shot weapons which can be used by troops to shoot around the corners in an urban warfare or counter-terrorism scenarios.
These will include corner shot rifles and pistols with contain a detachable high resolution camera and small LCD monitors inbuilt into them which are used to observe and engage a target from behind a corner safely without exposing the troops to direct fire from the terrorists. The front part of the barrels which are mounted with video cameras can swivel 60-70 degrees on either side and direct fire around corners. This revolutionary weapon was designed by Amos Golan, who is a retired Lt. Colonel of the Israeli Defense Force, heading various various elite counter terror units and with an hands-on combat experience spanning more than 30 years and is the Joint-CEO of Corner Shot Inc. and Doron Tamir, a retired Brigadier General, who was formerly the Israel Defense Force’s Chief Intelligence Officer. He now serves as an executive at Corner Shot. The company is head quartered in Miami, USA and has offices in Israel with principal funding coming in from American investors.
The NSG is known to have already launched the process for acquiring such advanced corner shot systems as well as wall surveillance radars to monitor what is inside a room without actually entering it. The American Israeli and other special ops forces around the world are already using these types of advanced systems. These weapon systems in the IA will basically serve the elite Para-SF units of the army.

So army is buying it too. Wanted to know how far NSG has made progress.

Waiting for someone to provide link to PAKEye.

By the way, why don't India buy that from us. We are enemies when we are standing against each other but whole world is united against Terrorism and that means, Pakistan and India are on the same side to fight and eliminate Terrorism. May be because of ego India would opt some other western system but POF Eye would be the most economical but a capable platform to fulfill India's requirements.

THE CORNER SHOT GUN – CORNERING BAD GUYS

In early 2000, the world was introduced to weapon that came as godsend to all those paramilitary forces and Swat teams who have to engage in close-quarters urban combat — the CornerShot. This revolutionary new gun was the brain child of Amos Golan, CEO, CornerShot, wanted to create a gun that had a huge edge in counter-terrorism/military special operations. Military personnel can shoot around corners (doors, and walls too) without exposing themselves to enemy gunfire.

What’s the big deal?

No matter how much firepower you carry or how advanced your weapons are, at the end of the exchange lies one simple question: Who sees whom first? Unless you are Superman with x-ray vision to see through walls you would still have to turn your head around the corner, allowing the enemy to shoot a hole through your head.

With CornerShot, you can get a shot at the enemy without the risk of having to move out of the protective corner of the wall that shields and hides you. Using the CornerShot, security forces accurately engage and dispose off the target, without getting in line of the fire.

Extremely helpful in door to door combat zones of Lebanon

How effective is the weapon?

Inventor of the gun, Amos Golan describes its value as, ‘I believe that the CornerShot weapon system can be extremely beneficial in the global war on terror. It protects soldiers' lives and increases their chances of survival, while drastically improving their ability to gather information and transmit the combat scenario as well as pinpoint and engage targets out of their line of sight.’ He adds, ‘Today's combat situations, especially in low intensity conflicts, involve fighting in urban terrain, and inside inhabited buildings, forced entry into airplanes, buses or trains. This unnecessarily exposes security forces to the enemy and presents an immediate risk to their lives. CornerShot removes the need for this initial exposure.’

The CornerShot system is designed in a way that enables security forces to engage targets from the left, and right, from the front, up or down, and to move to each of these shooting positions very rapidly without the removal of hands from the weapon. This shortens reaction time and increases accuracy in sudden engagement situations. The weapon system can be triggered completely from behind cover.’ ConerShot has a barrel that’s omni directional, mean it can turn either ways to shoot around corners.

How does the video monitor work?

Fine, the gun has a barrel that can be twisted either side to 90 degrees but the person using it would still need to peek around the corner to see if the enemy is lurking on the other side, Right? Well, there is a camera lens that’s attached just below the gun’s swivelling mount and above the barrel is a white flash light. On the left side of the barrel is mounted a swing/flip-out small video monitor, roughly the dimensions of a camcorder.

How is the gun used?

Assuming of course, the gun is in a neutral position (straight) and the person using it is still alive, this is how the CornerShot is meant to be used. Firstly the manual safety level needs to be moved down and off. Then the video monitor needs to be flipped out and the camera turned on. If it’s night, one of the buttons on the video monitor can be used to switch the white flashlight which is mounted on top of the barrel. Now you are ready to unleash serious greif!!

As simple as shooting a video?

Now let’s say, the terrorist/bad guy waiting for you around the corner to your left. Now to take him down, you would have to ‘cock’ the lever towards your right to swivel the barrel towards the left. Now just lock the cocking lever to keep the barrel fixed towards the left. Now all you would need to do is to keep looking in the video monitor for the baddie. Now when the bad guy comes into the monitor, you can lock him up on the monitor and pull the trigger. In a way, the CornerShot gives lethal new meaning to idea of ‘video shooting.’ One of the best things about the CornerShot is that the gunner can reload the weapon just as quickly as any standard rifle.

Any modifications in the gun?

Yup, the CornerShot is one of the most lethal weapons to be developed for tactical operations in an urban location, but the weapon has been made all the more destructive in its new avatar. 'Around the Corner' is CornerShot’s latest version and even has an attached Grenade Launcher, and has merged the capabilities and features of the old CornerShot with extended range and increased firepower of a 40 mm grenade launcher. The grenade launcher can fire several types of projectiles including smoke grenades, lethal and semi-lethal grenades, illumination grenades fitted with parachutes.

In a Nutshell

Obviously a gun this handy can’t be had for cheap. CornerShot is priced between $4,000 to $6,000. But price is about the only deterrent that should make any security department re-think its decision to arm its personnel with the CornerShot. It’s by far the most interesting, effective (and coolest) weapon to have been developed in a long time. It’s not surprising that the Israeli’s were the ones to develop a gun like this. After all, Israel has had more experience in dealing with terrorism than most other nations. One wonders if the CornerShot could have been useful in keeping the good guy casualties down if our NSG commandos were equipped with these babies during 26/11.

If i am not wrong the weapon mounted is a Socom SD, correct me if i am wrong & what kinda weapons can be mounted on it

You know i have been looking into corner shot.

Iran, Pakistan and China have their own version of the gun.

Just wondering why America or Russia do not have their own versions ?

Is there a comparison between the ones available and the one Pakistan developed.
