Indian army troopers Saturday claimed to have foiled an infiltration bid by killing three militants on Line-of-Control (LoC) during a gunfight in Indian-controlled Kashmir, Indian defense officials said.

The gunfight broke out early Saturday morning in the frontier Uri sector, close to LoC in Baramulla district, around 115 km northwest of Srinagar, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir.

"We have been able to thwart an infiltration bid in Uri sector. Three militants were gunned down during a gunfight after our alert troops in area observed suspicious movement early this morning. The troopers asked the intruders to surrender but they defied the warnings. The gunfight is going on," said Lt. Col. J. S. Brar, Indian army spokesman based in Srinagar.

The troops have cordoned off the entire area and search operation is underway.

Further details about the gunfight are not immediately available.

On Thursday, three militants were killed during a fierce daylong gunfight with Indian army on the outskirts of Srinagar city. The police said the militants were planning to carry out a suicide attack on army installations in the city.

The past two weeks have seen a surge in gunfights in the region.

According to Indian Army figures, over 100 militants have been killed in various operations in Indian-controlled Kashmir this year while attempting to infiltrate into this country from across the border.

When Pakistani members call the Indian Occupational Forces in IAK as terrorists army, don't complain and open a new thread complaining that why the Indian Occupational Forces in IAK only are called terrorists.

Indian Members, when Maoists kill Indian Security Forces, Pakistani members have shown their grievances and condoned the killing of Indian Security Forces and do not side with the Maoists. Same with any other group operating in India, except for Kashmir.

So, it would be wise enough for the Indian members to keep their mouths in check when they are talking about Kashmiri Freedom Fighters or Separatists. Any bad language or derogatory remarks would not be tolerated and if Pakistani members call the IA in IAK as terrorists, then don't come running or if you dragged in another issue of Pakistan in it, then the door will be shown, as we don't side by with the other groups fighting in India, nor the Indians should side with other problems of Pakistan.

So any more derogatory remarks, and you people are out of this forum for good. Go to Indian forums and do the rant over there.

Don't know what's the surprising thing now, as its not the first time.

They use for Kashmir as Indian controlled Kashmir, so what does that mean ?? To me it means, they don't think it as part of India.

And here, read what militant means, to me, militant is the correct word being used.

If we go by history, terrorists attacks increase during times of high profile visits.

Indian army will have to be ready to face more such attacks.

Srinagar: Army on Saturday said it foiled an infiltration bid by killing three militants near Line of Control (LoC) in north Kashmir.

“Troops noticed a group of militants trying to sneak into this side from near Uri on LoC,” Lt Col J S Brar said.

"Militants were challenged and so far three of them have been killed. The operation is still on," he added.
