What's new

Indian Army Hands over 30 Fully Trained and Ready to Deploy Military Mules to Bangladesh Army.

Do we have anything to counter this new Indian threat?

Apparently the ISI have obtained intelligence on how they will be used.

These are the only reliable ''arms'' Bharat is capable to export/gift to other countries. At least these donkeys will not malfunction, fail to launch, drop off from sky or self explode like other Indian manufactured arms. You can expect these donkeys to perform their duty reliably unlike other Made in India maal.
ah yes Bangladesh with it's state of the art military where you can't fail nor export cos you don't have any sort of domestic complex afterall

US even has a museum of mules in the military

""But the wars in Afghanistan created a necessity for pack mules which are now an integral part of the U.S. Marine Corps Mountain Warfare Training Center in Bridgeport, California.""
Mules in the Military

Army Mules: The Beast of Burden in War

Mules served in large numbers with U.S. Army forces during World War II.

by Christopher Miskimon

In the words of a veteran of the China-Burma-India Theater, retired Technical Sergeant Edward Rock Jr., [they] “served without a word of complaint or lack of courage. They transported artillery, ammunition, food, and medicine, and under enemy fire transported the wounded. Many of the CBI veterans are here today because a mule stopped a bullet or a piece of shrapnel meant for the GI. Mules fell in battle, mortally wounded, and we shed tears for them.”

Pack mules indeed performed yeoman service in Asia and other theaters during World War II, hauling weapons and equipment as well as saving lives by carrying wounded off the front lines. They took the same risks as their human masters and too often they paid the ultimate price. A report on April 4, 1944, from one of the units of Merrill’s Marauders described their sacrifice in detail: Japanese artillery fire had killed or wounded most of the unit’s mules. The stench of the dead animals was so intense that the troops would not put the wounded ones out of their misery for fear of increasing it. The remaining animals also blocked enemy fire with their very bodies, one mule having 26 holes from a Japanese machine gun.
Soldiers adjust the straps that secure a machine gun to the back of a mule for transport.

Ask the British army that fought in Burma, mules were vital in carrying out guerilla operations against the Japanese who also used mules.
They are vital in carrying large loads in dense inhospitable terrain.
Ask the American special operations, they too use mules.
Dude, there are UCAVs now who will locate & obliterate such supply columns....

Arise, arise, Riders of Theoden!

Spear shall be shaken, shield shall be splintered,
a sword-day, a red day, ere the sun rises!
Ride now, ride now, ride! Ride for ruin and the world's ending!

Death! Death! Death!
Forth Eorlingas!

Oh no! These aren't horses , but mulls!:undecided:

I had been to Camp Pendleton, California in the 1990s to see their Cavalry unit. They still have some mounted units:

See the Mule doesn't like people laughing at him,

A significant force multiplier for the Bangla army. Kudos.
And, our great military Chief Hasina Bibi is smiling widely. But, what are the functions of mules in a modern-day military? It is certainly not for transporting materials.

No one is interested in sell any "decent arms" to you, "Gadhey". And you can't afford Nora Fatehi's dance at the moment, so your ability to pay for any decent defense equipment is suspect.

Donkeys fit your military doctrine quite well, little wonder why they were gifted to you.
Is that why you guys gave so many donkeys to China?

If this tells me anything, it’s Bangladesh’s reliance on India for just about everything.

When it comes to training Bangladeshis, India trains everyone there from mules to Bangladeshi civil servants.

It's not that.. Pakistan army used mules to transport in kargil conflict of 99..
It's about how this is being celebrated by both sides.

I really want to know the state of mind of three people.
1. Who made this generous offer
2. Who accepted this great proposal
& finally
3. Who thought it"s really great idea to celeberate the event.

I mean these mules can't reproduce so what's the significance in it except for ropes which can be used to tie up BSF personel if they ever intrude.

Hi, am replying to you here because there is an as yet unresolved issue of a cap on the number of new posts I can make in a 24 hour period, and a number I do not know yet either, so I need to be very selective about what to post and who to.

The entire Burma to upper NE Indian theater of war against the Japanese forces was won off of the backs of these brilliant pack animals.

War is war and some things never change. Nature and terrain is one of them. The current war in Ukraine has exactly the same issues that armies faced in both the great wars a century ago. General mud. Who controls strategy and deployment and renders a large part of the year unfit for operations and simply dig in and defend and hold till the big freeze arrives.

Burma and Bangladesh and NE India and the monsoons and the thick vegetation and the mountains and swamps and jungles are still the same as they always have been. And the mule can go places where a wheeled or tracked vehicle can never venture. And keep going, as long as it gets some vegetation to chomp on. No logistics of fuel or repairs or spares.
Yes, the mules are for transporting goods and men in otherwise impassable terrain. Horses cannot do this job. Mules look small and weak. But, they can navigate rough terrains with loads on their back.

By the way, there is a famous picture of Napoleon Bonaparte on the back of a horse somewhere in the Alps on his Russian invasion.. But, in reality, it was a mule he was riding. The painter replaced the face of a mule with the face of a horse.
