Lets Analysis India and China's position during Doklam:

1. IA moved close to 100K soldiers from Twang to Uttarakhand. And most of them are still there. Started AFB at Panagarh, West Bengal. If war had erupted then India had pin point data of Chinese positions thanks to the US and Japan.

2. China due to its manufacturing base can keep artillery and Rocket attacks for months. Even if India have pin data of their location(s), I don't think India will use Stand-off weapons first like Cruise Missiles first until fall of some key location. And that Artillery barage from PLA in long term would have enough to keep IA at tows. They can keep sustained firing from safe positions for months if not years.

3. There is/was possibility of spill over this skirmish to sea and it would have catastrophic for both nations.

4. Some undertone in Beijing is that Chinese Scholars have almost put some cost analysis in case of skirmish and end result was not gaining anything in the end. That was biggest reason why Chinese polit bureau is/was not putting too much weight on military options even after all jingoism in media.
