Indian Army chief to visit Sri Lanka over bilateral defence cooperation.

Toothless Country gave you guys 20+ years of sleepless nights.

Have you guys forgotten the pole which was sowed in your *** for those years.

That made my day, Indians celebrating the fact that they backed a terrorist group LTTE and let it loose in a foreign country (Sri Lanka) for targeting civilians.

To see what he means by 'sleepless nights' here are some snippets of LTTE:

1- On August 3, around 30 heavily armed Tamil rebels crossed a lagoon and entered the town of Kattankudi. At around 8.10PM, they entered the Meer Jumma, Husseinia, Majid-Jul-Noor and Fowzie Mosques, where hundreds of devotees were attending Friday Isha prayers. The LTTE cadres were disguised as Muslims to avoid suspicion.

As the civilians knelt in prayer, the Tamil rebels attacked them, spraying automatic fire and hurling hand grenades at the worshipers. Most of the victims were shot in the back or side. The rebels fled as Sri Lankan soldiers, notified of the ongoing massacre, arrived at the scene. Initial report put the death toll at around 100, but as many of the injured who were rushed to hospital succumbed to their injuries, the final death toll rose to over 147.

2- The LTTE hijacked a bus May 14, 1985 and entered Anuradhapura. As the LTTE cadres entered the main bus station, they opened fire indiscriminately with automatic weapons killing and wounding many civilians who were waiting for buses. LTTE cadres then drove to the Buddhist Sri Maha Bodhi shrine and gunned down nuns, monks and civilians as they were worshipping inside the Buddhist shrine. Before they withdrew, the LTTE strike force entered the national park of Wilpattu and killed 18 Sinhalese in the forest reserve. The LTTE cadres massacred 146 Sinhalese men, women and children in Anuradhapura.

3- The October 1995 massacres were carried out by the LTTE during these massacres, 120 Sinhalese civilians were killed by LTTE cadres. The dead included men, women and children. Many of the victims were hacked to death with swords and axes.

4- The Central Bus Station Bombing was the car bombing of the central bus terminal of Colombo carried out on April 21, 1987 in Pettah, Colombo, Sri Lanka. The bombing killed 113 civilians.

When did we denied???

Its open that we supported and trained LTTE.

But even this is clear that without us, it would have been impossible to crush them.

I hope the arrogance on massacres of civilians is not lost on members coming from rest of the world. Its also interesting to note that LTTE targeted Muslims, Buddhists and Christians, certainly sheds some light on the Indian design.

Since when did Tamil Nadu hold India ransom? If there are better military ties between India and Sri Lanka, the state of Tamil Nadu's hyperbolic chest beating is secondary ... nay, not even secondary but of least importance when it comes to the bigger picture of maintaining relations with other countries.

I am with Abingdonboy on this -
1) LTTE lost all respect when they butchered not only Indian and Lankan soldiers but civilians as well.
2) Tamils in TN lost whatever respect they had for their chauvinism when they mistreated returning Indian soldiers of the IPKF.

On the other hand, if Tamils had their way, Singapore would have become Singapuram had not Lee Kuan Yew not relented to having Tamil as one of the official languages of Singapore.

LOL also that gave Gandhi a hug with a bomb at last and gave hundreds of yours teardrops.

Do you also remember how Rajiv Gandhi was whacked by a Lankan soldier using his rifle butt? That footage is still available on Youtube.

Such was the anger vented by the Sri Lankans against India's "forced" meddling when it had no business supporting the LTTE.

New Delhi: As Indian Army Chief General Bikram Singh lands in Colombo later today, he is certain to hear from his hosts about many unfulfilled aspects of Indo-Sri Lanka Defence Cooperation.

One of the unfinished agendas between India and Sri Lanka is a formal Defence Cooperation Agreement (DCA), in discussion between the two countries since 2003.

The lack of a formal defence cooperation pact has however not prevented the two countries from furthering their defence ties, opposition in Tamil Nadu to the presence of Sri Lankan military personnel in various Indian training institutions notwithstanding.

In fact, according to highly placed sources, the first ever platoon level combined military exercise between the two countries is currently underway at the Special Forces Training Centre at Nahan in Himachal Pradesh. Given the sensitivities involved, both the countries have however decided not to publicise the event.

This is not all.

Despite the political controversy that erupted in Tamil Nadu earlier this year, India continues to host and train a large number of Sri Lankan officers across the three armed forces. While it is a fact that China and Pakistan have increased their military involvement with Sri Lanka in the past decade, India remains the preferred destination for training of Sri Lankan officers.

In 2011-12 for instance, 820 Sri Lankans undertook training in Indian Military Establishments. In the current year (2012-13), 870 officers are undergoing training in India. This includes two senior officers doing the prestigious National Defence College (NDSC) course in New Delhi.

Four Indian officers also do three different courses in Sri Lanka since 2010. While one officer each tarin at the Defence Services Staff College and the Counter-Insurgency and Jungle Warfare School, two Indian Officers have been doing a course in the Special Operations and Jungle Warfare School in Sri Lanka since 2011.

New Delhi and Colombo also started a formal Annual Defence Dialogue (ADD) in February this year when Sri Lanka's Defence Secretary (in reality, Defence Minister) the all-powerful Gotabaya Rajapakse held talks with India's defence secretary Shashikant Sharma in New Delhi. The next round of this dialogue is slated for February 2013 in Colombo.

Last year (2011) also saw the initiation of the Army to Army Staff Talks between the two countries. Held again this year, these talks between the two armies actually finalises the training and exchange visit schedules.

In February 2009, India also helped Sri Lanka open its Military Intelligence School in Kandy. A 10-strong Indian Army Training Team (IATT) has a mandate to be stationed in Sri Lanka till December 2013.

Although India has steadfastly maintained its policy (at least in public) about not supplying offensive military hardware to Sri Lanka, it has quietly decided to extend a 100 million dollars credit line to Colombo for purchase of non-lethal weapons.

In fact since 2000, India has supplied 24 L-70 anti-aircraft guns, 11 USFM radars, 10 Mine Protected Vehices and 24 Battlefield Surveillance Radars to Sri Lanka.

Ever since the military defeat of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) in May 2009, New Delhi and Colombo have tried to reset their defence relationship.

General Bikram Singh's four-day visit is but one step forward in that direction

For every action there is a equal and opposite reaction! I am NOT supporting the LTTE here... They are not fools to subject themselves to suicide attacks!
