Indian Army carries out airborne insertion exercise

E

It's just not a viable option anymore IMHO the modern battlefield is very hard for mass troops drops.
PA 25th mechanized Division crosses Longewala and gets closer to Ramgarh. India drops paratroopers behind 25th mechanized Divs advance, between Longewala and Ramgarh, avoiding 25th Mechanized Div's SAM cover. PAF is a no show to cover 25th Mechanized Division in Indian skies. Not only is the supply cut for PA forces but it gets encircled from all sides.

This is a very basic scenario. There can be many more.

. . .
The exercise was conducted in high alt areas opposite China, however considering Indian mentality, does Pakistan Army employ a paratrooper formation (apart from SSG), that can conduct an airborne exercise of this magnitude ?
Pick a footage of 1950 and compare it to this. You'll understand what i mean but i can explain. These exercises are for public appeasement and show of power. Calling something "advanced" does not make it. Dropping troops from sky with no simulated resistance is no feat. It's not about magnitude and quantity of troops you can bring, but training with emerging tactics, under real war-like scenarios. I would still have same comment if Pakistan army does this one party exercise, but they don't mostly. All Pakistani military exercises are now modeled on self-evolving scenarios vs another side. Another one is coming up, vayu shakti, and you'll see them dropping bombs on an air field. Maybe someone will tell me can pakistan AF do this?

New Delhi: The Army has carried out a two-day airborne insertion and rapid response exercise in the country's peninsular region in sync with its overall approach to maintain operational readiness, officials said.
The exercise that concluded on Tuesday involved advanced aerial insertion techniques, or air dropping of soldiers, "combat free fall" and integrated battle drills by airborne and special forces troops.

"The airborne and special forces of the Indian Army practiced their aerial insertion capability and rapid response anywhere on the mainland and in its island territories, in an airborne exercise in Peninsular India on March 14 and 15," said an official.
"The exercise involved advanced aerial insertion techniques, including combat free fall and integrated battle drills by airborne and special forces troops," the official added.

The exercise came 10 days after the Army's airborne and special forces carried out aerial insertion and related drills in the Siliguri corridor along the northern border with China.

Airborne troops were inserted into a Drop Zone at an altitude of more than 14,000 feet. Pre-acclimatized troops along with specialist vehicles and missile detachments were transported through C-130 and AN 32 aircrafts from five different mounting bases to validate inter-theatre move, precision stand-off drops, rapid grouping and capture of designated objs with speed and surprise.

The drop was particularly challenging due to the low temperatures of upto minus 20 degrees and rarefied atmosphere in super high altitude terrain. This is the first such exercise carried out by Indian forces in the region.

In the era of HQ-9's and S400s and BVRs - these tactics are relics of a by-gone era ...
General sahib nothing is obsolete.

those surface to air missiles you listed have to be working ( not taken out already, present in the theatre) and sufficient to shoot down everything thrown at you in the noise, confusion and destruction of war.
these operations will only follow after degrading any threats to the transporters.

redundancies are core belief of military thinking.

. .
Calling these exercises obsolete is a joke. This is according to a pattern. They do everything according to a plan. They have tested us several times. They know army personnel concentration and they use real time satellite tracking. Obviously they are planning for something. If it's a plan than we will see more accidental fires, airspace breach and submarine intrusion. They are very clever enemy and you can't even guess their next move. They pretend to be something else. Hindus are clever, very clever. May be operation Market garden type stunt. Who knows!

The hardest part.
What is division's frontage and what will be the the SAM coverage for the entire division on the offensive ?
SAM coverage for supply route ?

What do PA's formations have in response to this ?
Merely mocking enemy since "you think" airborne Ops are obsolete should then worry all nations with airborne troops to disband their formations.

Hindus are clever, very clever.

I keep saying this but my nephews and nieces just fall over laughing their heads off.

We are no smarter cleaver or wiser than the rest of humanity with the same foibles and fancies as the rest.
