The Indian Air Force is presently carrying out the largest ever across the border disaster relief mission to Myanmar and China having conveyed over 277 tonnes of relief material in the aftermath of cyclone and severe earthquake respectively. Another IL-76 of IAF would be ferrying 28 tones to Chengdu in China tomorrow.

It may be recalled that cyclone Nargis struck south-east coast of Myanmar on 03 May 08 and caused wide spread damage to life and property. Also a severe earthquake measuring over 7.8 on Richter scale had struck the Sichuan province of China causing severe disaster. The Indian Air Force was called upon to carry relief supplies to these disaster affected areas.

For Mayanmar, the Disaster Management Crisis Group (DMCG) projected the requirement of carrying relief material on 06 May 08 and on 07 May 08 two IAF AN-32 were airborne for Yangon with supplies consisting of tents and medicine. Additional relief supplies were sent by IL-76 transport aircraft on 08, 10, 12 & 17 May 08. Another IL-76 has left for Yangon on 27 May 08.

For Myanmar IAF has airlifted 125.5 tonnes of relief material load includes medicines, tents, ready to eat meals & 47 personnel.

For China, the DMCG projected the requirement on 16 May 08 and IAF had delivered the load once again on 17 May 08 itself consisting of tentage, blankets & medicines. Thereafter relief supplies were sent on 19th, 21st, 22nd, 23rd, & 24th May 08. IAF has so far airlifted 152 tones of relief materials including medicines, tents, sleeping bags, blankets and ready to eat meals.

Good gesture by India.
How much has pakistan done for their dear friend China?

Considering that China is their closest friend, they should have done atleast 10 times more.

These relief efforts are only friendly gestures and nothing more! especially when you talk of big power countries like China/USA/Russia..
its not like China could not have survived without these aids or people are totally abandon by the government.. like Burma..
just a political move by the GoI trying to be so loving caring country while the world does not know that India is harboring one of the biggest terrorist in the world... yupp dala lama!

Its not political, Even developed nations face crisis and even though they have funds but channelizing and providing aid to recipients in time is a big question example being Katrina disaster in Louisiana.

China did call for help from its enemies-

China calls on former enemy to help - World - smh.com.au

Now thats just a understatment Talwar dont be silly we are having our own issues in every sector the nation is upside down we are doing watever we can i have read some aid and doc's and paramedics have been sent to China! Always remember a saying chairty starts from home.

Relief are not friendly gestures at all.

They are indications that there is some humanity still left in the world.

It is those who have no heart and compassion are the ones who sees everything as merely political games!

And Dawood is a pious chap!

So cut out the irrelevance and get down to some educated debate.

I am sure Pakistan, too, could have survived without any other country's help during that devastating earthquake and yet she took help. Why? Because every little help matters.

India too has taken help.

It is because there is humanity still left in the world, inspite of those who see a conspiracy even when Heavens speak!

I am sure there was a political game, when the Almighty organised these earthquakes, right?

What really is worth mentioning is that the Indian Airforce is conducting these special releaf operations after the Chinese Govt.'s special request for tents and heavy cutters, the Indian Airforce is flying a releaf operation to China almost everyday now...and the Indian Airforce is perhaps one among the only two airforces in the world which are allowed to operate releaf operations freely inside myanmar and the Indian Navy is perhaps the only navy in the world, that is being allowed to carry releaf operations freely inside myanmar....India is conducting releaf operations for two countries at two different fronts at the same time....something that makes me really proud..

I personally think this is a wrong way of asking a question. I feel pakistan must have done to the best of its capacity to provide help to china.

Must we look for an ulterior motive in everything ?

Secondly, its about time nations in the sub continent look to help each other.

Lastly, if Dalai lama is a terrorist, he surely is the 1st terrorist in the world who meets world leaders & is feted globally !! Unlike the gent who lurks in the Pak - Afghan border & does not have the courage to show face to the world openly !!

We just have too many problems in our country which the news papers are filled with, Every day 2 C130 is going and coming back nonstop, with Red cross , Army medical core, Food and supplies. PAF and Army are doing what ever they can. Remember they don't need any help they have everything 100 times more than Pakistan or India. Just like Brigadier Sahib said there is still good in this world.

I met him once in Uk at the french Consulate, just hello hi thats it, but I know where you are taking this topic , you are right there are things which are pretty F===up. about him , Why dont you start a thread on him and them we can diccuss about him the men which are his advisers are not the type you want to hang around.
On the current topic when ever there is a crisis people put aside there differences and help out

The earthquake in China is a tragedy and every one should do whatever it can to help the people. In times of tragedy political issues are set a side and help is provided regardless of ones relations with the country affected by the trajedy. No one know this better than Pakistan that had recently faced the same kind of tragedy. Pakistan is doing what ever it can to help the people of China and the same thing if done by India is also a good humanitarian gesture.

I do agree that whenever there is a crisis everyone does help out. I also beleive that making threads about topics such as the one we are posting in (Indian air force’s largest ever airlift across the border) is nothing but a cheap form of chest thumping, and is very much uncalled for.

I'm not trying to "hijack" the thread if that is what you're implying; if I come across as such, thank you for correcting me and I do apologize. But what I do not understand is why do people call him (Dalai Lama) a "terrorist."

Further, I did not introduce the term "Dalai Lama" into the thread.
