Indian Air Force orders 10 Boeing C-17 Globemaster III

Which then makes me ask a question, what did the RAF use as a proper fighter until 2006? What did they use for air superiority?

Because they were (and are) Part of NATO and any aircraft headed towards UK airspace is intercepted by several NATO jets on its way
Before the Tornado they did have the F-4 Phantom and the Electric Lightning

being america's 51st state (okay that is debatable between canada and uk) has its perks...:azn:

Yes the UK was once described as America's largest aircraft carrier

10 C 17s for just 1.8 billion?

AFA I remeber the deal was gonna be somewhere around 4-5 billion with maintainance thrown in.

So either we are having a follow on contract for the bells and whistles for these 10 birds or.....

It's time to partay!!!! :partay:

P.S.

Captain popeye saab, the F 16 does not run on spinach, yet!;)

.......Or does it? (where is Mr. Akash A?)

Long time no see yaar??

Actually the whole deal is 4.1+ billion.I think the 1.78 Billion there is advance payment to get the assembly going
1.78 is for only Boeing, just to make the aircraft, the Engine contract is again different, the maintenance cost and contract is again different...

"The wide difference between Antony’s Dec 12/11 statement and this contract is a good reminder that the purchase contract doesn’t cover everything. As one example, India can expect to pay another $380 million or so for the 40 F117 engines that will equip these planes. They will be installed under this contract, but are not bought under it. Other “Government Furnished Equipment” from both India and the USA also factors into the total program cost, as do initial support contracts in many cases. Based on USAF total costs, Antony’s $4+ billion figure also includes support contracts – a Sept 27/11 C-17 support contract totaled up to $469 million, for an undisclosed period."
