This could well severely cripple any combat capability more then the issue of old jets. If the pilot to aircraft ratio is less then 1.5 to 1 then there will be major issues putting up enough sorties during war, or you push pilots to fly 18 hours a day....

Minister of State for Defence Shripad Naik said the number of pilots in the Indian Air Force at present is 3,834 as against the sanctioned strength of 4,239.

Maybe that is because IAF is on a jet crashing spree to reduce its pilots shortage. One way to justify so many crashes. Afterall you've got to remain optimistic. No jets, no pilots required! With so many crashes no wonder your pilot shortage is going to decrease.

12 planes lost, at least 20 air force personnel killed in crashes this year so far

The Indian Air Force has lost 20 personnel and 12 planes in crashes since January this year. These include planes like MiG, Mirage 2000, Su-30, Jaguar, among others.

by the way 1100 planes,where involved
half of them combat planes.

no offence but this exercise cost more than the entire annual service budget of pakistan in one year .
to operate 1100 planes,in 13 days need a serious fuel and money especially in a,giant country like India as we demonstrated a,2 front war.

peace time pilots numbers or service levels,do not depict true war potential.

ie look at our efficiency in.ladakh against China. we were and are ready

After Operation Gagan Shakti, Indians were talking big about two front war.

Neutralizing PAF in 2 days and than taking on PLAAF.

However Indian Generals stopped talking about two front war after 27th Feb 2019.

Only Bharati trolls are still beating the chest about a two front war.

gagan shakti is not a,veiw point it's a massive air Force exercise one of the largest ever conducted during peace team.
it's not fiction it happened their are hundreds of,vedio on it and it's,well.documented .
India learnt a lot and that helped with ladakh stand off and showed what new weapons needed and what infrastructure needs improving. it was a brilliant model.exercise
