Indian Army Officer Killed By Pakistani Sniper In Cross-Border Firing

Pakistan's defence minister warned on Sunday that India would suffer "heavy losses" it would "remember for decades" if it tried to "impose" a war on his country.

Defence minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif said "Pakistan's Armed Forces will defend every inch of their motherland at every cost".

He was talking to the media during his visit to a village along the international border in Sialkot. "If India tries to impose war on Pakistan, heavy losses will be inflicted on India which it will remember for decades," the minister said.

Asif said "cowardly acts" by Indian forces have strengthened the determination of Pakistan to defend its land, state-run Radio Pakistan reported.

"India's real face is exposed as it is supporting terrorism in Pakistan and creating tension on borders through unprovoked firing along the working boundary and line of control," he said.

Asif's comments came in the backdrop of heightened tensions along the border and LoC after Pakistan called off NSA-level talks set for August 23 when India made it clear that discussions on Kashmir and a meeting with separatists would not be acceptable. Nine people were killed during an exchange of fire on Friday along the border.

Asif alleged India was diverting attention from its "internal failures" by creating tension on the borders.

He claimed that Pakistan had proof of India's interference in the country which he said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif would present at the UN General Assembly meeting in September and to the US leadership during his visit there in October.

US National Security Adviser Susan Rice met Pakistan's prime minister on Sunday to press concerns over attacks launched by militants based in Pakistan, officials said.

The United States has urged Pakistan and India to get reconciliation talks back on track

In a major ceasefire violation, Pakistani Rangers today opened heavy fire at Indian border outposts along the International Border in Jammu district, leaving four BSF personnel injured.

Pakistani Rangers resorted to unprovoked firing on forward Pittal border outpost along IB in Arnia forward area of R S Pura in Jammu district around 1115 hours, a BSF officer said.

In the heavy firing till 1130 hours, four BSF men were injured, he said, adding BSF troops, guarding the borderline took positions and effectively retaliated resulting in exchanges which are still going on in the area. Three injured BSF soldiers have been admitted to Government Medical College (GMC) Hospital here. "Pak Rangers not only violated ceasefire but also resorted to unprovoked firing", he said.

Is it remotely possible that the Indian Security Agencies know something better than you/me here and hence the engaging the enemy at the border?

It is very much possible that the firing along the LOC was not just egoistic retaliation -- but part of a major effort to stop infiltration. Given the intelligence reports of infiltration attempts to sneak in miscreants to cause trouble during Republic Day parade, I believe the BSF/CG and NTRO are onto something.

Thinking even from the point of view of trouble-makers, they can't hope to get more attention than targeting India during the Reuplica Day parade when such an important dignitary is attending it.

More fundamentally, I have always respected your opinions but in my 'humble' view, we shouldn't demonize the Indian Security Agencies especially when all our arguments are mere speculations without actually knowing the full ground realities.

watch learn and educate yourself.

Huh? How exactly is that video of yours relevant to my point?

Are you trying to say that there are absolutely no incidents of infiltration from Pakistani side and any such thought is plain ludicrous?

The violation of the ceasefire pact Pakistan has increased after the recent surgical strike by the Indian Army in Azad Kashmir.
Pakistan Army on Friday morning resorted to heavy shelling and gunfire at Indian positions on the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district of Jammu region.

“Heavy shelling and firing started in Malta area in Poonch district today (Friday) morning after Pakistan Army resorted to indiscriminate mortar shelling and firing at Indian military and civilian positions,” a police official said.

According to sources, Indian Army retaliated effectively using same calibre weapons after unprovoked shelling by the Pakistani side.

Pakistan has been violating with impunity the bilateral ceasefire agreement signed with India in November 2003.

The violation of the ceasefire agreement by Pakistani side has become a rule rather than an exception after the Indian Army on September 28 night carried out surgical strikes against terrorist “launch pads” across the Line of Control in Pakistan administered Kashmir.
