Indian Acquisition of the Gorshkov

One good implication of the "Delays" by Russia has been the understanding by India that they can only protect their strategic interests by Going Indegenous .. The IAC .

Known as ADS earlier has been in pipeline since Two Decades but the real work begain only a few years back after the Gorskov NightMare.
Gorshkov will be perhaps the Last foreign Aircraft carrier in IN.
May be may be not coze i hear sometime back the Royal navy A/c Q/E -2 may be sold to India.

.
They wanted to USSR was building two of them. When their economy hit hard times.

I had to be scaled back and powered conventionally.

And since the ships were built i Ukraine, the sister ship of the Admiral Kuznetsov the Varyag(which was inclomplete and just a Hull) was left with the Ukrainians who then proceeded to sell it to the Chinese with the gentlemen s agreement that it would not be used for military role.

That's what happened with the Soviets attempts at Building a nuclear carrier.

A carrier without a nuclear reactor.
And the other half completed sold to China

Ronald Reagon defeated the Soviet Union without firing a shot. That is military strategy at its best.

Well, I think India, given its track record in producing weaponry, should stay with foreign procurement. Its a waste of money to attempt to purchase from domestic manufacturers. Case and point, LCA and Arjun.

Noway.
India is NOT prepared for it.

Its a huge Ship.

#1. We Need an appropriate Fleet for it.
#2. An Appropriate Dock for it

Most importantly, Time factor.
It will be ready by 2017 and by that time India can get its own Second IAC ready in Half the price !

The Navy wants 5 Aircraft carriers.

So far 3 of those five has been authorized.

And what is most weird is that each aircraft carrier we will have is completely a different ship.

we dont operate a singular aircraft carrier class.

so if we get the brit ship we will have 4 different AC's (the two IAC's are of different designs)

.
How often a carrier has to refill if its diesel powered ?.

Every few months or so.

Never if it has a supply fleet, ferrying it supplies

And in Battle groups there are often Multiple cargo to hold more supplies

I hate replying to you but.

But who died and made you judge of the Judge of the LCA and Arjun

Both platforms are being inducted. in sufficient numbers. and has built up the capabilities for further future developments of such systems.

get real development is constant process it does not happen oernight.

China took decades to be where it is today

Are you surprised India needs decades as well

Yes They want 5 carriers but you have to build the Fleet too with the same pace.

Say we get 3 carriers by 2015 [ Gorshkov + QE + IAC ], how do we get the Supporting Escort ready for three ships in 5-7 Years ?

I agree with u and its convincing that India needs 2+1 Carriers a a Minimum.
1 in ready status in East and West and 1 under Repairs.

But what i mean is instead of getting QE [ I am not questioning the Numbers at all ] why not bulid a carrier yourself, preferable a Nuclear Carrier when u have Tech for a conventional carrier and a miniaturized Reactor [ INS Arihant ] ?

It saves money, gives employment and makes us feel confidant that we can "do it on our own"

In a documentary i saw its 4-7 days.

USS Nimitz has to be refueled every 25 Years. [ 2 reactors ]
USS Enterprise every two Years [ 8 Reactors ]

Going a little off topic but

girte hain sher-sawar hi maidaan-e-jung mein, woh tifl kya gire jo ghutnon ke bal chale

I still remember 1986 where India had already had a couple of unsuccessful attempts at computerization and I remember comments about how can a country living on foreign debt venture into a high tech field like computers and software engineering. I am glad that Rajiv Gandhi (then PM of India) didnt agree, and I am glad the govt of India today also does not with the above logic.

cheers

Both creates 194 and 210 MW respectively. May be we can buy them after they decommissioned to use as power plants.

I just ignore him, someone who has decided that he is just going to trash you without caring anything about topic in hand is not a good person to discuss with.
