Bindra, Narang win first gold medal for India

New Delhi: Shooters Abhinav Bindra and Gagan Narang have won India its first gold medal.
Early on Day 2 of the Commonwealth Games, Bindra and Narang shot gold in the Pairs 10 m Air Rifle Mens event. Bindra scored 595 and Narang scored 598. They were were defending champions in Pairs event in Melbourne.
Dr AS Bindra, Abhinav Bindra's father told NDTV: "Glad Abhinav has made the country proud."
There is plenty of sporting action in store through the day with 18 gold medals at stake. There will be some other big names in action too, including Somdev Devvarman, Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupati.
While Gagan Narang and Beijing gold medalist Abhinav Bindra featured in the pairs event as favourites for gold, world champion Tejaswini Sawant is also in action in the 50m 3P pairs shooting event.
On the opening day of the competition yesterday, India won four medals, including two bronze and two silver medals in Weightlifting.
