India enjoys less than friendly terms with Pakistan and a shaky relationship with china. Now why on earth would any sane Indian government reject foreign input in our defence and infrastructure ? Quite frankly, this is something the pakistanis and Chinese brought upon themselves.

India should do whatever i can to get defense related goodies from the west , what i don't want to see is that those goodies come with political strings and India must not be a launchpad of "operation rape Asia".

It was you who brought US into South Asia in the first place by signing by SEATO or CENTO. Your country provided bases for American U-2 spy planes to monitor USSR and then in the 1980s provide the launching pad for US's Afghanisthan intervention. So its a big load of hypocracy that you show here.

As for Asian Union...my ***. In our entire existence as an independent country we were only attacked by Asian countries while Western countries like Russia & Israel(its considered as an extension of the West) provided us with weapons for fight those 'Asian Brothers'. So thanks but no thanks , we don't need Asian Union.Everyone for themselves. If indeed you want us to cooperate less with US, tell your friend China to not act as a regional bully & disband its dreams of Asian domination and everything will sort out.

It's a cycle really. There was a time when India used to be the most culturally and scientifically advanced region in south Asia and maybe even the world. With time, this shifted to the Egypt, europe, etc etc etc and now America. Nothing in the world is set in stone..no power in this world is immortal save god who is beyond this world. So your argument is flawed. As the wheel of time turns, new chapters are written in human history.....by different authors.

General rule of thumb (at least for India) - Best not to ever fully trust another nation, especially one that's a lot more powerful than you. At the end of the day every nation is looking out for it's own interests. By putting all your eggs in one basket, you're leaving yourself to be vulnerable. Because of these things, I don't think India will ever fully join the American bloc.

Also, why do we need an "Asian Union" to develop? Isn't economic co-operation enough? And if you can't have that, just keep your head down and do what you can. "Asian Union"? - Psssh! Sounds as ridiculous as the "Muslim Ummah" to me (no offence to anyone).

Furthermore, we have no qualms with the US. Pakistan and China might but we don't, neither do the Sri Lankans, the Bangladeshis, Nepalis or the Bhutanese etc. (+ most of East Asia) as far as I'm aware. So... no thanks. We don't want any part of this "alliance".

Exactly....India has always focused primarily on it's own interests before considering someone else's . We prosecute if it's mutually beneficial.

Dude your problem with US is not our concern. We have lot to gain economically, politically and militarily by having good relations with US. We are not going to let go that for the sake of some Jihadis in Pakistan who essentially was your creation in the first place. As you said things are moving our way, Why miss the chance.

Indian politicians and Generals are not that dumb like yours was in 1965, when they thought as they have Patton tanks and F-104 Starfighters from US ,they could take on an enemy 7 times their size.
