Defense Ministry of India has planned to purchase 44,618 rifles and 33.6 million of ammunition, according to Defense Aerospace. The sum of the potential transaction is estimated at one billion dollars. Purchase of machines will be made on the basis of the tender, announced in the interests of Indian Army.
Interest in the tender have already expressed Belgium's FN Herstal, Italian Beretta, German Heckler and Koch, Israel Israel Weapon Industries, American Colt Defense and Bushmaster Firearms International and Singapore-based Singapore Technologies Kinetics. The winner of the tender should be put not only assault rifles and ammunition, but also shops, laser designators and scopes.
According to the requirements of Indian Army, machines should be the caliber of 5.56 millimeters with a rate of fire - 660 rounds per minute. One of the conditions is also a licensed production machines in India. After the purchase of machines in the tender, Indian Army can place an order for 335,050 machines for a total of $ 500 million and buy 10 730 light assault rifles.
